LaVerne Wesley ‘Buzz’ Asklund was born Apr. 7, 1923, at Ogden, Iowa, to Harry N. and Mary Woodruff Asklund. He died Sept. 18, 1994 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.
Cpl. Asklund served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II with the 704th Bomb Squadron, 447th Bomb Group, stationed in England.

L. W. “Buzz” Asklund, 71, Duncombe, died Sept. 18, 1994 at Hamilton County Public Hospital following a sudden illness. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Stone officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday until time of service. Graveside military services will be conducted by American legion Post 491.
LaVerne Wesley Asklund, son of Harry and Marie (Woodruff) Asklund, was born April 7, 1923 at Ogden. He received his education at Ogden and Boone. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, stationed in England.
On Feb. 24, 1946, he married Zola Parrish at Nashua. The couple resided at Maquoketa, Toledo and Belmond, where he managed A & P grocery stores. They moved to Webster City in 1950 and he was employed at the McCollough Foundry. He started employment for a fertilizer company in Highview in 1955. In 1975, he opened the Buzz Inn in Duncombe, which he operated until his retirement in 1991. The couple continued to reside in Duncombe.
He is survived by his wife, Zola; daughter, Linda Erickson of Fort Dodge; sons, Randy and Monty Asklund, both of Duncombe, and Lark of Webster City; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Asklund, Jr. of Duncombe; sisters, Lilla Proesch and Ione Keaney both of Boone, Juanita Hilpipre and Junella Keller, both of Webster City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
He was a member of the American Legion 491 of Duncombe.
