Howard Samson Askelson was born Jan. 26, 1921 to Nels S. and Belle E. Jenkins Askelson. He died Dec. 7, 2012 and is buried in White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Troy, MI.
Col. Askelson served with the U.S. Air Force for 31 years as a fighter interceptor pilot and as a squadron leader. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters for his service in World War II.
