James Melvin Abbott was born Jan. 28, 1922 to Melvin and Fern Thompson Abbott. He died June 23, 1976 and is buried in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, IA.
Sgt. Abbott served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial gunner on a Liberator B-24. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
