Sioux Cityan's Son Wins High Combat Award
Sergeant Chester O. Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Wright, 304 W. Sixth Street, has mailed to his wife at Salinas, Cal., the Silver Star awarded him in Sicily following the fall of Messina. A member of the 30th infantry, Sergeant Wright was in the entire African campaign from Casablanca to Sicily. He was the first man in the Salinas division to enter the service, having been in the army almost three years. A siege of malaria put him in a hospital but he now is back with his regiment. Although Mrs. Wright hasn’t received any information about the citation, the Silver Star is the Army’s third highest award for gallantry in combat.
