Pfc. Richard Wise Killed in Germany
Pfc. Richard D. Wise, 24, was killed in action Feb. 14 in Germany, where he was serving with an infantry unit, according to work received by his mother, Mrs. Leo Mogenson, of 433 Locust street.
He was last heard from when he and some other members of his unit spoke on a network broadcast from Germany in January.
Before entering service May 29, 1944, he was employed by Rath Packing Co. He received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla., and left for overseas duty in December, 1944.
Born Dec. 19, 1920, in Cedar Falls, Ia., the son of Robert and Viola Farris Wise, he moved to near Des Moines with his family when he was three years old. They later moved to Winterset, Ia., and in 1940 to Waterloo.
Besides his father, of Vantort, Ore., he is survived by his wife and son, Richard Jr., formerly of 103 Front street, but now of Winterset, Ia., where they reside with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Saunders, 33 ½ Webster street; one brother, Robert Wise, Jr., Oakland, Cal., one half-sister, Helen Morgenson, 8, at home, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Laura Felt, 1320 Westfield avenue.
A daughter, Teresa Elaine, died last April at the age of five months.
