Sgt. R. Waterman of Cedar Falls
on Luzon Island
With the 25th Infantry Division in the Philippines (Delayed) – Sgt. Ralph E. Waterman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Waterman, 720 Main street, Cedar Falls, Ia., recently made a combat landing on Luzon island in the Philippines, with the 25th infantry (Tropic Lightning) division. The sergeant is personnel clerk for an ordnance unit.
With more than two and one-half years overseas service, he was in Guadalcanal and New Georgia campaigns, where the 25th division was cited by south Pacific commanders for outstanding performance.
Sergeant Waterman has earned the Good Conduct ribbon and is entitled to wear the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with two campaign stars.
A graduated of Rockford, Ill, high school, he later became a sign painter with the Waterman Sign Co. in Cedar Falls.
The sergeant’s brother, Harold J. Waterman, is a private first class in a prisoner of war camp guard unit, Camp Clark, Mo.

Returning Service Men Arrive
More northeastern Iowa service men are reported aboard ships that have docked during the last few days. Seven veterans from the Pacific theater were reported aboard the Admiral Rodman that docked in San Francisco Oct. 3.

Ralph Elmer Waterman was born Aug. 3, 1911 to August and Josephine Johnson Waterman. He died Mar. 1961.
Sgt. Waterman served in World War II with the U.S. Army 725th Ordnance Maintenance Company.
