Air Crash Kills Navy Radio Man

Elmer Walker is Victim of Accident in North Carolina.
Elmer Wesley Walker, 22, aviation radio man, second class, in the navy, was killed in an airplane crash Sunday evening, August 22, at Cherry Point N. C., according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon B. Walker, Waterloo, from the commanding officer at Norfolk Va. No particulars concerning the accident were included in the word received here.
He enlisted in the navy in Waterloo in March, 1942. After taking training in radio and radar at A. and M. College, College Station, Tex., he was transferred to Norfolk in September.
Elmer Walker was graduated from Janesville, Ia., High school in 1937, and before enlisting had been employed as a poultry technician in Medina, O.
Surviving besides the parents are two sisters; Mrs. Ervin Christian, Waterloo, and Mrs. Loren Eames, Belleville, Ill, and a brother, Boyd, of Forest City, Ia. His maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Boyd, Cedar Falls, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Isola Walker, Battle Creek, Mich., also survive. His fiancée, Miss Barbara Heintzleman, lives in Medina, O.
The body is to be sent home with a navy escort. [Interment was made at Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.]
