LIEUTENANT
Richard Paul Wagner, son of the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wagner of Treynor, was graduated last week from the naval air training center, Corpus Christi, Tex., and commissioned a lieutenant in the marine corps reserve. He is a graduate of Wartburg college, Waverly.

Treynor Couple Add Second Gold Star
to Service Flag

TREYNOR – Another gold star – the second in a little over a year – will go onto the service flag that hangs in the window at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert Wagner here.
Last Friday, 2nd Lt. Richard Paul Wagner, 24, a marine corps pilot stationed at Santa Ana, Calif., crashed in a plane accident and was killed.
It was on Feb. 19, 1943, that the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner were informed their eldest son, Lt. Egbert V. Wagner, 24, also a marine pilot, was killed in action against the Japs in the south Pacific.
The Wagners, it is believed, are one of the few families in this area who have lost two sons in the service. A third, Robert, now at home, is an aviation machinist’s mate in training at Norman, Okla.
Lt. Richard Wagner was graduated from the Treynor high school and Wartburg college of Waverly, and was commissioned a pilot at Corpus Christi, Tex., in October, 1943. On Oct. 20, he was married to Marian Ronneau of Council Bluffs. Before entering the service he was principal and coach at Brandon, Ia.
He was a native of Bryon, Be. Mrs. Wagner, who was with her husband on the west coast, is expected to arrive here with the body Tuesday or Wednesday.

Treynor Youth Discharged on Brothers’ Deaths
TREYNOR – Robert A. Wagner, aviation machinist’s mate 3/c, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert Wagner, is being honorably discharged from the navy at Ottumwa naval air station this week, under the navy’s policy of releasing sons and daughters of families which have had two or more sons killed in this war.
Wagner’s two brothers, both marine flyers, have been killed. 2nd Lt. Egbert V. Wagner, 24, oldest son of the Wagners, was killed in action against the Japanese in the south Pacific early in 1943. Lt. Richard Wagner, a marine corps pilot stationed at Santa Ana, Calif., died in a plane accident in March, 1944.

Men in Service
TREYNOR – The Rev. and Mrs. Robert Wagner, parents of the late Marine Lt. Egbert V. Wagner, were presented the air medal with gold star by Capt. John H. Paetow of the Omaha marine corps office this week.
Lt. Wagner was killed in action against the Japanese in the south Pacific early in 1943. The medal was awarded posthumously to the marine flyer for his participation in more than 10 combat missions.
The Wagners lost another son, Lt. Richard Paul Wagner, marine corps pilot, in a plane crash during a routine training flight in California in March 1944.
