Sgt. Jack Sundby
Dies in England

A war department telegram Friday advised Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Sundby, 1927 West Third street, that their son, Staff Sgt. Jack M. Sundby, 23, died in a hospital in England where he had been critically ill of pneumonia.

Sergeant Sundby, a meteorologist with the army air forces in England, entered service June 14, 1942, and received training at the weather forecasting school at Chanute field, Ill. He went overseas Oct. 2, 1944.

Born Apr. 12, 1921, Jack Maynard Sundby was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Sundby. He was graduated from West high school in January, 1939, and was attending Walton School of Commerce in Chicago, at the time of his entry into service.

Surviving are his parents and one sister, Jean, at home.

Memorial Rites for
Sgt. Sundby, Pvt. Schwerin

Memorial services for Staff Sgt. Jack Sundby and Pvt. Raymond Schwerin, Waterloo men who died overseas will be conducted at 3 p. m. Sunday at the Trinity American Lutheran church, with Rev. G. E. Melchert, pastor, in charge.

Sergeant Sundby, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Sundby, 1927 West Third street, died Nov. 26, 1944, of pneumonia in England where he was stationed in a weather station.

Private Schwerin, whose mother, Mrs. Minnie Schwerin, resides at 1316 Forest avenue, was killed in action Nov. 11 in eastern France while serving with the medical corps.

The families request no flowers.

Sundby Service on Wednesday

There will be committal services for Staff Sgt. Jack M. Sundby, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Sundby, 1927 West Third street, Wednesday at 3:30 p. m. in Memorial Park cemetery.  Norman Orth, theological student, will deliver the prayer. The American Legion firing squad will accord military honors.

A memorial service for Sergeant Sundby had been conducted at Trinity Lutheran church by Rev. G. E. Melchert on February of 1945.

Sergeant Sundby died Nov. 26, 1944, of pneumonia while serving as a meteorologist with the army air forces in England.

The body was to arrive at Locke funeral home Tuesday at 5:10 p. m.
