Uncle Will Serve On New Sullivan Ship

Patrick Henry Sullivan, 43, uncle of the five Sullivan boys from Waterloo, who lost their lives in the sinking of the U.S.S. cruiser, the Juneau, in the South Pacific, Nov. 14, 1942, will carry on the family name as a member of the crew of the new destroyer, U.S.S. The Sullivans, according to dispatches from San Diego, Cal., Thursday.
Sullivan received his new orders from the Navy department Wednesday just before he met with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Sullivan, 98 Adams street, parents of the boys, at San Diego, where they stopped during their tour of west coast defense plants.
The U.S.S. The Sullivans had been launched at a San Francisco shipyard April 4 under Mrs. Sullivan’s sponsorship.
Patrick Henry Sullivan is a brother of Mr. Sullivan, and is a fireman.
Four more Sullivans responded to letters from the “Fighting Sullivans Memorial” fund committee Thursday and the fund reached the total of $5,451.62.”
One of the Sullivans, Margaret, of 1507 Corby street, Omaha, Neb., commented:
“I feel sure this memorial will be a shrine for the American way of living which thousands and thousands of American me are ready, willing and able to protect.”
The memorial is intended by the committee to serve as a reminder to the people of Waterloo of those of its sons who give their lives in the present conflict, as well as to the five Sullivan boys. It is being collected by the Waterloo Daily Courier.

SULLIVANS TO SPEAK.
Thomas F. Sullivan, 98 Adams street, father of the five Sullivans who were killed in naval action, and his brother, Patrick Henry Sullivan, navy fireman second class, will be guest speakers at the communion breakfast of St. Mary’s Holy Name society which will be served after the 7:30 a. m. mass at St. Mary’s Catholic church today.
