Cpl. Emery Sisson, 818 Dubuque street, of the 717th tank battalion, has arrived at Camp Swift, Tex., from the European theater of operations. His wife lives at the Dubuque street address. The 717th tank battalion left the United States on Christmas day, 1944. After two months in England and France, the battalion began the 400-mile march to the west bank of the Rhine. Fighting their way through the industrial towns of Essen, Duisburg, Hamborn and Bochum, the battalion helped keep the pressure on the German armies caught in the Ruhr squeeze, later to be known as the greatest double envelopment in military history.
