Son, Reported Missing, Is Safe
It was a case of two persons having the same name.
In February, 1942, S. Sgt. Loren Oscar Schneider of Council Bluffs, a U. S. marine, was reported taken a prisoner of war by the Japs at Teintain, China.
Monday the U. S. navy department at Washington officially announced he is safe and not a prisoner as previously reported.
“It was all a mistake,” said his mother, Mrs. Mary Schneider, 729 First avenue. “It was a civilian of the same name as my son who was taken prisoner.”
The navy department was a little late in making its official announcement. Mrs. Schneider said she was informed in December, 1943, that it was not her son who was taken prisoner.
Mrs. Schneider said the last she heard from her son, a member of the marine corps for 17 years, he was in Philadelphia, Pa.
