Pvt. Phil Scarpellino was seriously wounded while serving with the 1st marine division on Okinawa June 15, according to a report received from the Navy department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scarpellino, 2407 Avenue B. He was wounded by shell fragment in the legs and thighs, and has been transferred to a naval base hospital somewhere in the South Pacific. Prior to his enrollment into the service in April, 1944, he attended Thomas Jefferson high school and was employed by the Union Pacific railroad during vacations. Pvt. Scarpellino has been overseas since November, 1944. A brother, Sgt. Paul Scarpellino, is serving with the Marines at Eagle Mountain Lake, Texas.
