Posthumous Purple Heart Sent Home
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Peterson, 800 Walnut street, Friday had received the Purple Heart which was awarded posthumously to her son, Marine Cpl. Richard M. Peterson, 18, who died as a result of wounds suffered July 21 while fighting on Guam.
Corporal Peterson, a graduate of East high school in 1943, and former employe (sic) of the Illinois Central railroad, had been overseas since February of this year.
Apparently for reasons of military security, no details concerning his death have been disclosed.

DEATHS
CPL. RICHARD M. PETERSON
Full military honors will be accorded Cpl. Richard M. Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Peterson, 418 East Seventh street, for whom funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 3 p. m. in O’Keefe & Towne funeral home by Rev. H. H. Diers, pastor of First Lutheran church.
Burial of the marine corps reservist, who was killed in action on Guam July 21, 1944, will be in Fairview cemetery.
Six marines will serve as casket bearers and the Waterloo Amvet post firing squad will officiate at the grave.
Becker-Chapman pot of the American Legion will furnish two buglers and an representative of the Amvets will present the colors to the deceased’s mother.
The Waterloo Veterans association will attend services in a body.
