Memorial Services for Sgt. Overskie Will Be Sunday
Memorial services will be held at 9:15 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the First Lutheran Church for Sgt. Harold L. Overskie, who was killed in action on July 23, 1944.
Sgt. Overskie was born September 6, 1909, at Nunda, S. D., and attended schools there. He was baptized and confirmed in the Prairie Queen Lutheran Church at Nunda.
Prior to entering the service, he was employed by Albertson & Co. here. He entered the service November 18, 1943, and took his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He was sent overseas on May 3, 1944, to England. He was attached to the 358th infantry regiment of the 90th division, entering Normandy 10 days after D-day. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant for gallantry in action.
Sgt. Overskie was killed by a sniper bullet while leading his men on the Periers line, pushing toward the object of Coutances on July 23, 1944. The purple heart was awarded posthumously.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Maxine B. Overskie, 3530 Pierce street; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olai Overskie, Nunda; two brothers, Cpl. John Overskie in the South Pacific and Orville Overskie, Brookings, S. D.; six sisters, Capt. Mildred Overskie, somewhere in the South Pacific; Mrs. Anne Webster, Morris, Minn.; Mrs. Marjorie Pine, San Diego, Cal.; Mrs. Vivienne Smith, and Mrs. Viola Hanson, Nunda; and Cadet Olive Overskie, Sioux Falls, S. D.

Harold L. Overskie is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
