Is Listed Dead
Pvt. Kenneth C. North, 31, whose wife and two sons reside at 621 Dundee avenue, was killed in action in France on Oct. 11, according to a war department telegram to his family Thursday.
In service only since Mar. 17, he had received training at Camp Roberts, Cal., and had gone overseas in late August, arriving in England Sept. 7, and in France two days later.
His last letter was received from France on Sept. 19.
Born in Waterloo on April 17, 1913, Kenneth Cecil North was the son of Elmer and Janet North, attended West high school, later took CMTC training in Des Moines, and was graduated from high school in Peoria, Ill.
On June 30, 1935, he married Genevieve Holley, daughter of Mrs. G. M. Parker, Raymond, Ia., at Northwood, Ia.
He was employed at the Rath Packing co. for eight years, and at the John Deere Tractor Co. for a short time before entering service. Private North was a member of Walnut Street Baptist church here.
Surviving are the wife and two sons, Clyde, 7, and Russell, 4; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer North, Cricago [Chicago?]. His mother preceded him in death in 1935.

North Rites Saturday at Fairview
The body of Pvt. Kenneth C. North will arrive in Waterloo Friday at 5:10 p. m. on an Illinois Central railroad train.
The son of Elmer and Gennette Eastman North, he was born in Waterloo Apr. 17, 1914 (sic). He attended West high school three and a half years, graduating from East Peoria, Ill. high school. He was employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until the time of his induction into the army in March of 1944.
Private North trained at Camp Roberts, Cal., and was shipped overseas in September of the same year. He was killed in action in France Oct. 11, 1944.
Surviving are his wife, who is now Mrs. George Shertz, 510 Dawson street; two sons, Clyde, 11, and Russell, 9, both of 510 Dawson street; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer North, Peoria, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Robert Milroy Tujunnga, Cal., and Duane Milroy, 302 Reber avenue; a stepsister, Mrs. Corrine Franser, East Peoria, Ill.; and a paternal grandfather, William North, Route 2, La Porte City.
Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a. m. at Fairview cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge of military rites.
The body will be at Kearns Garden Chapel.
