Lt. E. C. Nielsen Killed in Pacific
Waterloo friends have been advised that Lt. Eugene Carl Nielsen, son of Carl E. Nielsen, formerly of 326 Fowler street, and now at Ft. Madison, was killed May 11 while in action in the southwest Pacific.
Surviving besides the father are two brothers, Leander in the navy, and Bernard W., now hospitalized in England.

Eugene Carl Nielson was born Apr. 18, 1924 to Carl E. and Dorothy May Neilson. He died Apr. 6, 1945 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 1, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Petty Officer Nielson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Morris (DD-417) and was MIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
