Michael J. Merton, U. S. N. R., yeoman first class, whose wife lives with her parents at 27 LaSalle avenue, was in the first group of Navy men who left the destroyer, U.S.S. Gendreau, for a separation center in the States and a discharge under the point system. The Gendreau’s last battle was in the Okinawa campaign, in which she shot down three Japanese planes and helped knock down two others.
