SGT. R. M’NALLY DIES IN FRANCE
Was Reported Missing Dec. 2 and Then Dead on Dec. 5
Sgt. Richard John McNally, 24-year-old infantryman in the Seventh army, reported missing as of December 2 in France, died December 5, the War Department has informed his family.
In newspaper dispatches of December 29, it was reported that the East high school graduate who had resided in Sioux City most of his life, was awarded the infantry combat badge.
The young man spent two years in Australia and New Guinea and while there he participated in the battles of Buna and Salamoa. He was returned to the United States in February of 1944 and was sent to France last October. He entered the service in October of 1941, first training in Camp Wolters, Tex., and later being assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash.
The young man was a son of Mrs. H. W. Ingwersen of Davenport, Ia., and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. James Kelliher, 500 S. Fairmount. The widow resides in Davenport.
