C. M. (Bud) Gunderson Killed
Pfc. Clarence M. (Bud) Gunderson, 21, formerly of Waterloo, was killed in action May 22 at Mindanao in the Philippines, according to word received Tuesday by his uncle, Verne G. Johnson, 810 West First street.
He was the son of Mrs. Beatrice Spiker of Washington, D. C., formerly of Waterloo.
A former employee of Rath Packing Co., he entered service on Mar. 10, 1943, and had been overseas since March, 1944.
He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Waterloo, son of the late Clarence M. and Beatrice Gunderson, and attended East public schools and East high school. Before entering service, he resided with a brother, Robert D. Gunderson, 134 Argyle street.
Surviving besides his mother are two sisters, Miss Marilyn Gunderson and Mrs. James Rhodes, all of Washington, D. C.; three brothers, Robert D., now a seaman first class stationed at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Pfc. James, a veteran of 25 months in the Aleutians and now stationed at Camp Maxey, Tex., and Leon, of Seattle Wash.
Gunderson was the second Waterloo boy reported a victim of the Pacific war in as many days.
