PVT. R. GETMAN DIES OF WOUNDS
Was First Aid Man with Seventh Army in France
Pvt. Robert W. Getman, 21, first aid man attached to the infantry, died of wounds December 29, 1944, while serving with the Seventh army in France. His parents, Dr. and Mrs. M. W. Getman, 9 Stewart avenue, received the word from the War Department only a short time after having a letter from their son dated, December 21, in which he said he was “moving up.”
Born in Cherokee, Ia., May 17, 1923, Pvt. Getman attended Sioux City schools and was graduated from Central high school in June, 1940. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder prior to enlisting in the A. S. T. P. engineer’s unit at Columbia, Mo., January 28, 1942. At the time the units were discontinued, he was transferred to Camp Van Doren, Miss., with the infantry. He was sent to France December 5, 1944. Surviving are the parents and a brother Richard, all of Sioux City.
