Sgt. Harold L. Bramble

 

FROM the home of O. G. Bramble, 2715 Ross street, all of the children have gone to war.

The four sons of Mr. Bramble, whose wife died last December 18 (1943), now are widely separated, and serving in various branches of the United States forces.

Technical Sergeant Robert G. Bramble, 22, has been with the army air corps overseas since July, 1942, and received a citation for meritorious service during the Sicilian invasion. He joined the air corps after graduation from high school.  He serves with the troop carriers.

Private Warren L. Bramble, the eldest son, 23, is in training at Camp McCoy, Wis.

Private Harold L. Bramble, 20, the only one of the sons who is married, is in training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and will be a member of the air corps solon.  His wife is the former Lois Richter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Richter, 2715 Rebecca street.  They have a son, Richard H., born July 4, last year, whom they have declared will be “a real live nephew of Uncle Sam, born on the Fourth of July.”

John C. Bramble, 18, is in training at Camp Fannin, Tex.  He will be radioman as soon as he completes his training.

The father of the four soldiers is a veteran of the first world war.  He served in the signal corps in 1918, in France.

Cpl. Harold Bramble has arrived safely somewhere in Saipan where he is a gunner on a B-29.  His wife, the former Lois Richter, and son are living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Richter, 2715 Rebecca street.  Cpl. Bramble entered the army November 4, 1943.

Sgt. Harold Bramble Was Gunner on B-29 in Raids on Tokyo

Sgt. Harold Bramble, believed to be the first Sioux Cityan home from B-29 raids on Tokyo, has reported to Muroc field, Cal., for a month of advanced training after which he and his crew will return to Saipan as lead ship, according to orders he has received.  He was home recently on a week’s leave visiting his wife, Lois, and son, Richard, who live at 2715 Rebecca street.

Sgt. Bramble, a top turret gunner, has been stationed on Saipan for the last five months and has 11 missions to his credit.  He wears the air medal, two bronze stars, the South Pacific campaign bar and the good conduct ribbon.  Formerly employed at the air base, he entered the service November 4, 1943, and was sent overseas a year later.

Three brothers are in the service, Pfc. John, now in England, has been awarded the purple heart for serious wounds received while serving with the infantry.  Sgt. Warren L. is somewhere in Germany with an artillery division and T. Sgt. Robert G. is stationed in France with the troop carriers.  They are the sons of O. G. Bramble, 912 Pearl street.

S. Sgt. Harold Bramble, a veteran of 24 months service, is among Sioux Cityans to be discharged from the Sioux City air base.  He spent nine months as a gunner on a B-29 with the 20th air force, and completed 32 missions over Japan.  Sgt. Bramble wears the air medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Asiatic-Pacific service medal with three bronze stars, and was awarded the distinguished flying cross for achievement while participating in an aerial flight on January 23, 1945, over Nagoya, Japan.  He is the son of O. G. Bramble, 912 Grandview boulevard. He is living  with his wife and son in the home of Mrs. Bramble’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Richter, 2715 Rebecca street.
