Willard Keith “Keith” Baker was born Sept. 17, 1929 to Charles B. and Clara Bice Baker. He died Sept. 23, 2017 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.
Maj. Baker joined the U.S. Army during the end of World War II. Following the war he joined the Air Force Reserve and was called up to serve in the Korean War. In 1955 he became an officer and pilot in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam, retiring as a Major in 1969. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Air Force Commendation Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.

Petty Officer Bales served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS McKeane (DD-90) and was MIA/KIA when that vessel was sunk off Bougainville Island in the Solomon Islands when struck by an enemy torpedo. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Sgt. Barton served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 676th Bomber Squadron, 392nd Bomber Group, Heavy and was MIA/KIA in the North Sea off the Dutch Coast. He was a crew member on a B-24 Liberator bomber on a combat mission to Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Sgt. Bass served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps, Marine Fighting Squadron 214 (VMF 214) and served aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13) and was KIA when his ship was hit by two bombs. Thirty-one armed and fueled aircraft were on the flight deck and the resulting explosions killed 807 and wounded 487 on board. His body was not recovered.
