Donald served in World War II with the U.S. Army 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division and 75th Infantry Division.

He was married to Naomi Jean Gilley who was born Mar. 19, 1924 to William and Frances Dennison Gilley. She died Dec. 12, 2016. Naomi served in World War II with the U.S. Navy 12th Naval District General Courts Martial.

Forrest Richard “Toy" Pointer was born Apr. 3, 1924 to Harvey Lewis and Pearl May Williams Pointer. He died Jan. 10, 2007 and is buried in Maxwell Cemetery, Maxwell, IA.

Capt. H. G. Pollock was the first Ames, IA dentist to be called into the service. He served as dental surgeon for the 101st division.

He landed in Normandy on D-Day with 24 officer and 200 enlisted men, composing the medical company and working continuously in the temporary hospital quarters until June 9, when German bombs destroyed the hospital and wounded or killed nearly half of the medical personnel. The doctor suffered back and leg injuries and spent time in English and American hospitals receiving treatment.

He was awarded the ETO ribbon, Arrowhead denoting invasion, Battle Star, Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, Purple Heart and Presidential Unit citation.
