Paul Robert Buck was born Feb. 22, 1922 to William John and Ruth Irene Cowell Buck. He died Sept. 1, 2007 and is buried in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Grundy Center, IA.
Paul served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Medussa (AR-1) which was anchored in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. His next ship, the USS Navajo (AT-64), was hit by a torpedo and sank 45 seconds later. Paul was in the water for 1-1/2 hours until being rescued. He also served aboard the USS Leutze (DD-481) and on recruiting duty in Des Moines, IA. His naval career lasted 25 years. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
