Joseph “Joe" Leaming, Jr. was born Aug. 9, 1923 to Joseph (Sr.) and Hermina “Minnie” Supon Leaming. He died July 12, 1944 and is buried in Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA. He was initially buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii and returned to the U.S. in 1949.

MSgt. Lee served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and died in the South Pacific area while in the service of his country. His death was the result of an airplane accident.

Petty Officer Lee served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pecos (AO-6) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that vessel was bombed by enemy planes and sank in the open sea south of Java. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
