Harold Hugh Quick was born Sept. 2, 1924 to Henry Clyde and Maggie Fennamaw Quick. He died Oct. 17, 2011 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.
Sgt. Quick served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the Signal Corps as a cryptographer with posts in North Africa, Italy, and Corsica. His most vivid wartime memories were witnessing an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy, surviving an enemy air raid on the Island of Corsica, and passing through the Panama Canal bound for the Pacific Front when he learned that the war had ended whereupon his ship turned about, re-entered the canal, and sailed for America.
