WWII Hero Gene Bohl |
Seaman 1st Class Gene Bohl
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bohl received word Wednesday from their son Gene, stating that he had suffered what is called flash burns, when his ship, an attack cargo ship, was attacked by Jap suicide planes while they were taking supplies into a Yank beachhead somewhere in the Pacific. Several members of this [illegible] crew were killed and a number burned severely, but the Jap plane failed in its attempt to sink the ship which made it safely back to an American port. Gene suffered severe burns on his neck and face and one of his eyes was in a bad way. He was placed aboard a U.S. Naval hospital ship and headed toward a Naval land base hospital for further treatment.
