Nebraska in rural Nemaha County the daughter of John Wright and Margaret

Almira (Sconce) Wright. She received her education in the schools of Nemaha

County, Nebraska, attending high school at Brownville and Brock, graduating

with the Class of 1937 from Brock High School. In 1938, she moved with her

family to Iowa, locating in the East River, Page County area. On May 25, 1940,

she was united in marriage to Elsey R. Guilliatt in Rockport, Missouri.

Together they made their home at Brownville until moving to a farm near New

Market in 1945. To this marriage two children were born, Carol Ann and

Richard Hal.

In 1949, Anna and Elsey moved to the Kuhlman farm, 3 1/2 miles west of New

Market. In 1956, they purchased the farm where she was living at the time of

her death. Anna was always very passionate about farm life . . . it was who she

was. Anna loved her grandkids, she was an independent thinker, very well read

and up on current events. She enjoyed embroidery and quilting and was always

up for the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Anna was a tremendous cook,

specializing in homemade light buns and chicken pie. No one ever left her house

hungry, she made sure of that! She was a very self-sufficient woman, what

Memorial services for Lawrence Haggerty, age 88 of Corning, who died peacefully

Monday, September 24, 2007, at the Corning Nursing & Rehab Center after a brief

Funeral Home in Corning. Interment of ashes was held in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home of

Lawrence Ray Haggerty was born June 6, 1919, in Adams County, Iowa in the

family home where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Jesse O. Haggerty and

Luella Gertrude (Alexander) Haggerty. Lawrence was married three times. He and

his first wife, Geraldine Sheridan, had a son, Larry Haggerly. His second son, Don

Haggerty, came during his second marriage to Loretta Shaul. Three stepdaughters,

Evelyn, Betty and Joyce, were added to his family upon his marriage to Mildred

(Sparks) Kirkpatrick.

One continuity in Lawrence's life was the family farm. He had a great love of

the land and reaping the rewards of his efforts. Neighbors would gather each

season to bring in the harvest together. He loved farming a great deal and worked

extremely hard his entire life, virtually up until the end. Hand in hand with his love of

farming was his love of the equipment he used, which he tended to carefully and kept in

excellent running order. He carried the farming camaraderie over to his social

life, spending many Saturday nights in town standing on the street corner visiting with

friends . . . sometimes a little too much. In later years, he continued to go to town to

drink coffee and visit with friends. Earlier in his life, he and wife Mildred thoroughly

enjoyed traveling and made a trip west every year. His greatest love, however, was his

family . . . his children and many grandchildren.

Left to cherish Lawrence's memory are his two sons, Larry Haggerty and wife

Darlene of Corning; and Don Haggerty and wife Janell of Loveland, Colorado; two step

daughters, Joyce Stewart of Creston; and Evelyn Schrodt and husband Harold of Murray;

Riley, Eula Mae Tindle -

Eula Mae (Tindle) Riley was born on a farm southwest of Clearfield, Iowa, on May 1,

1918, the second child of George Andrew and Nettie Pearl (Routh) Tindle. She

departed from this life September 25, 2007, at the age of 89 years, 4 months,

and 25 days at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa.

Eula Mae was a fun loving girl who enjoyed the farm life, milking cows, and riding

her horse "Red". Being close in age, she and sister Mary Belle spent days playing

together like twins. Eula Mae attended country school in Ringgold County at

Lincoln #8, and then graduated from Clearfield High School with the class of 1935,

barely at the age of seventeen. With her "normal training", Eula Mae took her

first job teaching at Lincoln #5 for four years. She enjoyed sharing her

knowledge and worked extra hard for those that needed special help.

On May 25, 1940, Eula Mae was united in marriage to Robert Elvin Riley in Lenox, IA.

They made their home near Stringtown, where she had continued to reside for 67

years. Children Richard, Randall, David, and Nancy made their family complete.

Eula Mae performed all the usual tasks of a farm wife, raising chickens, gardening,

and helping wherever needed. She became involved with the Adams county 4-H clubs,

helping girls learn homemaking skills. Later she enjoyed activities at the Stringtown

Church, belonging to the Ladies Aid Club and quilting on Wednesdays. Many dinners

were served at the church with her help. She enjoyed vacations with her family and

later she and Elvin were fortunate to travel to many places, including twice to Hawaii.

Many of these adventures included Elvin's sister Leona, and her husband Carl.

In 1987, Elvin and Eula Mae built their retirement home in Riverside, CA near their

son Richard. She dearly loved this home and watched four grandsons grow to adulthood

Patient, kind, unselfish, and optimistic are words to describe Eula Mae. She had a

special closeness in her heart for her brother, G.A., and granddaughter, Kristyn. She

greatly loved all of her grandchildren and told them frequently how proud she was

of their accomplishments. With Elvin's declining health, Eula Mae lovingly cared for him

at their home until his death November 1, 2003. She enjoyed having company and

there was always plenty of food to be served when stopping by. She would answer

the phone with a cheerful "Hello", no matter how bad she felt and always leave you

with good advice about your problems. "I'll be okay, don't worry about me" was

frequently heard as  one left her home. She was  happy to maintain her

independence and to take care of her own needs in her own home.
