They moved to Sharpsburg and lived there until 1908, and then moved to Blockton where Hazel started school. In 1914, they moved back to Sharpsburg where Hazel attended school until 1918, when they moved to Clearfield, Hazel attended school in Clearfield through the eighth grade. She left school to help out with finances at home where, with the help of her mother, she learned to be an excellent Cook and dessert maker. Her niece, Pauline Miller, can remember a table loaded down with goodies when they went to Aunt Hazel's for Sunday dinner. As a teenager, Hazel and her best friend, Zelda Frame, were baptized into the Methodist faith in Clearfield. On November 12, 1929, Hazel was united in marriage in Creston to Oliver Russell Hargin of Conway. They made their home on a farm midway between Clearfield, Conway and Sharpsburg. Hazel was very proud of her family and when getting ready to go somewhere the kids would ask her how they looked and she would reply, "Beauty is as beauty does" or "If you act as good as you look, you'll do okay." Hazel had many grandchildren she was very proud of and in later years, when the family would gather for a birthday or wedding, Hazel would look around with pride-and comment, "just look what I started," because to her, family was everything. Hazel lived on a farm with her husband and children helping with the chores and the farm work, as well as raising her children, gardening and taking care of the many chores of a farm wife. Many times she donned her husband's overalls and went to help harvest in the field. Ten years after her husband's passing, she and the kids moved to Clearfield, right across the road from her mother, as Minnie sometimes lent a hand while Hazel cleaned houses for people to supplement the family income. She also worked as a cook at the Clearfield School and part time as an aide at the Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield. In 1968, she went to live with her son Phillip in Boulder, Colorado caring for his daughter Lisa until his remarriage in 1972. Hazel returned home helping to assist her mother with various chores until Minnie went into the Clearview Nursing Home at the age of 92. When Hazel was 76, she moved to the Sunrise Apartments in Lenox where she resided until June of 1993, when she broke her hip. She recuperated in the Lenox Care Center until August of 1993, when she returned home to her apartment. She re-entered the Lenox Care Center in February of 1994, where she spent her remaining days.
