Anderson, Kermit (Andy) Wendell -
Graveside services for Kermit "Andy" Anderson, age 78, of the Bushville/Lenox area,
who died Saturday, November 4, 2006, at his home were held Wednesday, November 8, 2006,
at 2:00 p.m. at the Grove Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Parkinson American
Legion Post No. 250. Memorials can be given in his name. Memories can be shared with the

Kermit "Andy" Wendell Anderson was born April 19, 1928 in Alcester, South Dakota, the son
of Kris Anderson and Elsie (Hemmer) Anderson. He grew up attending school in Alcester.
After school he worked on a construction crew until he was drafted into the United States Air
Force, serving from 1951 to 1959. Upon his discharge he was united in marriage to Pauline "Petunia"
Click on October 9, 1955 in Wyoming. After their marriage, Andy and Petunia eventually
settled in Vincent, Iowa where they took over a local tavern known as "Andy's Tap".
Together he and Petunia ran this business for many years where they enjoyed serving the local
community wonderful homemade food and drinks. While living in Vincent, Andy also worked at
the local co-op. In 1989, they decided to retire and purchased acreage in the Bushville /Lenox,
Iowa area. While living here they enjoyed raising livestock and chickens.
They were mostly known for raising exotic house dogs, which they sold. Andy was an avid deer
hunter and outdoors man. Together he and Petunia would look forward to their yearly trips
to visit their nephew Bob Workman where they would enjoy fishing together. Andy
loved being in his workshop where he repaired farm machinery.
Left to cherish Andy's memory are his loving wife, Petunia Anderson of the Bushville/Lenox
area; a sister Vennetta Lund of Eagle Grove; and a nephew Bob Workman and
wife Linda of Oklahoma and their children, Lacy; Amy and Andy, along with many other
relatives and friends.
Preceding Andy in death are his parents Kris and Elsie Anderson; a brother Dwayne
Anderson; and two sisters Neldred Prewitt and Lorraine Floyd.

Evans, Harold Keith -
Harold Keith Evans, son of Frank and Susan Reynolds Evans, was born June 25, 1920 at Creston,
Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Creston. He received his
education in the Creston Schools, graduating from Creston High School in 1939.
From 1942 to 1945, he served with The U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater.
He was united in marriage with Artis Mae Akins at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings,
Nebraska. Harold worked in a grocery store in Lenox, Iowa. He then drove a bread and later a
candy delivery truck, and moved to the Sumner area. Prior to retiring in 1983, he worked for Meyer
Hardware and was a custodian at the Junior High School in Sumner.
A resident of the Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Harold's death occurred there on Monday, October
30, 2006, following a lengthy illness. He was 86 years old and had been a longtime member of the
United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative council, was lay delegate to the
annual convention, and served as secretary/treasurer of the Sunday school. He also worked for
a time as the church custodian and was a lifetime member of Thomas E. Woods Post #223.
In addition to his wife, Artis of Sumner; he is survived by one son, Roger (Diane) Evans of North
Platte, Nebraska; three daughters, Garland (David) Moore of Oelwein, Judy "Jude" Knox of
Waterloo, and Joyce "Jo" (Jerry) Riker of Cedar Falls; eleven grandchildren; twenty four
great grandchildren; and one cousin.
He was preceded in death, by his parents; one brother, Harvey;. three sisters-in-law; one
brother-in-law; and several cousins.

Flick, Frances J -
Frances J. Flick, 90, died October 18, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in
Des Moines. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Grace
United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the
Church preceding the service. Interment services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30
o'clock p.m., at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa. Local arrangements entrusted
to Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Frances was born the daughter of Bruce J. Flick and Alice J. (Dunning) Flick on
August 17, 1916,in Maryville, Missouri, and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She
received a B.S. degree in forestry from Iowa State University and a Master's
degree in library science from Syracuse University. She worked in the libraries for the
U.S. Department of Agriculture and for the Animal Disease Laboratory in Ames. She
retired as the reference librarian from the University of Arizona in Tucson and returned
to Des Moines in 1981.
Frances loved her books, especially her book collection on the Civil War. She
believed in reading non-fiction only and enjoyed attending the live New York theatre with
her brother. She was politically astute and socially aware. Frances was multilingual.
Within the last ten years, she taught herself Arabic and Bosnian. She was a member of Grace
United Methodist Church, Suzannah Circle of United Methodist Women, P.E.O. Chapter Q,
American Association of University Women and Des Moines Women's Club.
Frances is survived by her niece, Charlotte L. Clark, of Jamaica, New York, and her
grandnieces, Carla M. Clark of .Tucson, Arizona, and Annette H. Kimball of Long Island,
New York. Frances was preceded in death by her mother and father and her brother and
sister, Robert B. Flick and Margaret D. Clark.

Glass, Dorothy Julienne Souder -
Funeral Services for Dorothy Glass, age 84 of Bedford who died Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Dorothy Julienne (Souder) Glass was born January 21, 1922, in Elm Creek, Nebraska, the daughter
of Samuel Francis (Mike) Souder and Anna Mae (Lunsford) Souder. When Dorothy was just one year
old, her family moved from Nebraska to Bedford, Iowa so they could be near many of the other
Souder family members. Dorothy grew up in the Bedford area attending school and graduating from
the Bedford High School. During her school years, Dorothy was very active in 4-H. After
high school, Dorothy taught in area rural schools. In May of 1942 she was united in marriage to Ray
Vernon Glass in Maryville, Missouri. To this loving union two children were born a son, Ron, and a
daughter, Jeannie.
After their marriage, Dorothy and Ray lived in Moses Lake, Washington where they did custom
farming. The couple moved back to Bedford in 1984 when they retired.
Dorothy loved to visit with family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Bedford and was also a member of several area clubs. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and doing arts
and crafts. When she was no longer able to live at home, Dorothy moved to the Bedford Nursing &
Rehab Center where she enjoyed many of their activities, especially Bingo.
Left to cherish Dorothy's memory are her son, Ron Glass and wife Paula of Bedford; a daughter,
Jeannie Moore of Salinas, California; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; many nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents Samuel Francis and Anna Mae Souder; her husband
Ray Glass in 1990; a granddaughter Lori Ann Moore; and an infant great-granddaughter, Erica
Brill.

Johnson, Barbara Jean Marxen -
Memorial services for Barbara Jean (Marxen) Johnson, age 55, of Linn Creek, Missouri
were held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Hedges Funeral Home in Camdenton,
Missouri. Barbara died of cancer at her home on Tuesday, October 17, 2006.
Born January 1, 1951 in Greenfield, Iowa to Donald Leroy and Norma Ruth (Brown) Marxen,
she graduated Creston High School in 1970. Barbara worked in the dietary department at
Greater Community Hospital and then as head cook at several Creston restaurants including
the Williams Cafe, Shamrock Cafe and Bernings. In 1985 she managed her own business in
Orient, IA known as the Orient Tap, famous for her curly fries and home cooked noon specials.
She married Jerry Johnson and for the past 15 years they have resided in Linn Creek, MO
where she worked for the Hook and Hoof Restaurant in the heart of the Osage Beach
Resort.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Johnson of Linn Creek, MO; mother, Norma
Marxen of Creston; Aunt, Esther Bucher of Orient; brothers, Stephen (wife Betty)
Marxen of Lenox, Robert (wife Connie) and Ralph Marxen of Creston; nieces Becky
(husband Mike) Smith of Lenox, Brandy Marxen of Creston and Brenda (husband
Tim) Njus of New Hampton and nephew Clint (wife Leah) Marxen of Atlantic.
She was preceded in death by her father and infant son, Donald Lee Driver.

Marcelene Mae (Schuster) Jones was born January 1, 1928, in Blockton, Iowa the daughter
of Cecil Carl Schuster and Garland Maude (Anderson) Schuster. She grew up in
Athelstan attending school where she and her sister, Maxine Alvarez, lived with their
granddad Alfred Anderson. They both enjoyed attending Sunday school. On February 3,
1947 she was united in marriage to William Henry Jones in Troy, Kansas. The couple
lived for a short time in Sheridan, Missouri, returning to Athelstan to make
their home, To this loving union three children were born, Linda Ilene, Kenneth Lee
and a stillborn daughter Retha Cheryl were born.
Marcelene loved attending the Holiness Christian Church in Athelstan. She enjoyed
gardening, often times planting more than she could handle! She loved being around
people and really looked forward to Sunday family dinners where the family ate a lot
of chicken, and was well known for always wanting to bake from scratch. The highlight
of the year for her was attending the Hopkins Picnic. She enjoyed listening to country
music and was always a protective mother with her children. Marcelene was
also known to "tell it how she thought it was" which was something her family found
endearing.
Left to cherish Marcelene's memory are her son Kenneth Jones and wife Jane of Hopkins,
Missouri; a step-son, Charlie Jones of Dodge City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Richard
Frampton, Curtis Jones and Megan Jones; and several step grandchildren and step-great
grandchildren.
Preceding Marcelene in death are her parents Cecil and Garland Schuster; her husband
William Henry Jones; two daughters, Linda Frampton and Retha Cheryl Jones at infancy;
and a sister Maxine Alvarez.

Larsen, Helen Nocton -
Helen Larsen, daughter of William T. and Nellie M. (Shelby) Nocton was born on
June 7, 1924 near Tarkio, Missouri and departed this life on October 23, 2006 at the
Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa.
She attended Westboro, Missouri schools. She was united in marriage to Glenn
Larsen on November 5, 1949. They lived in Clearfield most of their 55 years of married
life.
Helen and Glenn were very active and involved in the Clearfield community, for years
they helped with the shuttle buses at the Iowa State Fair, she was a school bus driver,
worked for Juergens Insurance, and cooked at Clearview Homes and the Clearfield Meal
Site.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Karen and husband Jerry Horton of
Richland, Iowa, grandson Bob Horton of Fairfield, Iowa, Gary and wife Sara Horton of
Fort Wayne, Indiana and great grandchildren Trevor, Taylor and Samantha Horton all of
Fort Wayne; sisters Dorothea Larsen of Clearfield and Martha McRinley of Salida,
California; brother Marvin Nocton of Malvern, Iowa; brothers-in-law Jim and wife
Eleanor Larsen of Decatur, Alabama and Carroll Polsley of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law
Darlene Larsen of Diagonal; Iowa and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ann Polsley, 5 brothers-in-
law, and 2 sisters-in-law.
Services were held Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa with Rev. Gerry Kahler officiating.
Burial took place in the Clearfield Cemetery.

Lewis, Mayme Gale Robertson -
Funeral Services for Gale Lewis, age 84 of Bedford who died Thursday, November 2,
2006 at her home in Bedford were held Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the
Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Gale's body was cremated following the services and
interment of ashes will be held in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa at a later

Mayme Gale (Robertson) Lewis was born in the family home on May 9, 1922, in
Washington, Iowa the daughter of Royal Robertson and Flossie (Thompson)
Robertson. She grew up attending school in Washington, graduating with the Class of
1940. It was during her high school years she met Robert (Bob) Lewis, who just
happened to be a star high school athlete, and their first date was after a big
football game in 1939. Once during the basketball game Bob was up to shoot the winning
free throw. He looked into the stands, caught the eye of his sweetheart Gale, winked at
her, made the shot to win the game. And I guess you could say the rest is history! The
couple would continue to be sweethearts, even after Bob's National Guard Unit was
mobilized in January of 1941 prior to World War II. Bob and Gale continued their
relationship the entire time he served in Europe as a foot soldier in the Infantry. During
this time, Gale attended the University of Iowa, School of Nursing, graduating in 1943 as
a Registered Nurse. Upon Bob's discharge the couple was united in marriage on
October 12, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa.
Bob and Gale were blessed with the birth of four children, David Robert, Craig
Robertson, Mark Richard and Margaret Ellen. After their marriage, Bob attended school
to became a Certified Master Watch Maker. Together Bob and Gale would live in various
communities in the Western United States, eventually settling in Santa Ana, California
in 1965. This is a profession Bob enjoyed until ill health from Multiple Sclerosis
was diagnosed in 1978 and forced him into retirement.
Gale would continue to be a very loving arid nurturing mother, wife and nurse. She
worked in various hospitals in California and also very active as a Private Duty Nurse until
the late 1980's when she retired. Gale truly loved nursing and taking care of other people.
In 1986, Bob passed away and Gale continued to live in California where she enjoyed
chauffeuring her many friends around. She was always a very active woman who
enjoyed various artistic activities such as crocheting, quilting and painting. She was
a member of the Parkview Community Church and the Faith Community Church in
California. Always an avid reader, since her early childhood, Gale would continue her love
of reading throughout her life. She also enjoyed working with her rose bushes and doing
crossword puzzles and playing scrabble to keep her mind sharp. In her younger years,
Gale served as a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed watching her children's sports activities.
Gale was such a loving grandmother. She truly enjoyed spending time with her ten grand-
children who brought her great comfort and joy. She was known to say "I have the best
grandchildren a grandma could have!"
Throughout her life, Gale was a strong woman who would often travel, sometimes
twice a year, driving from California to Iowa to visit her daughter Margaret. In 2005,
she moved to Bedford, Iowa to be near her daughter, purchasing a lovely home
where she enjoyed watching the birds, horses and cattle out her back window.
Left to cherish Gale's memory are her four children, David Robert Lewis and wife
Crystal of Seattle, Washington; Craig Robertson Lewis and wife Inja of Temecula,
California; Mark Richard Lewis and wife Debbie of Petaluma, California; and Margaret
Ellen Mogler and husband Jamie of Bedford, Iowa; a sister, Wilma Mae Harbison of
Washington, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Bill Moorehouse of Chicago, Illinois; and ten
grandchildren, Samuel, Emily, Jesse, Jacob, Julia, Michaela, Charissa, Ethan, Siena
and Coralie.
Preceding Gale in death are her parents, her husband Bob in 1986 and a sister Neva
Jean Moorehouse.
