MRS. EMERY CLARK, 69, DIES IN NEBRASKA
Funeral
services for Mrs. Emery (Minnie Walter) Clark, 69, of Tarkio, Mo. formerly of Omaha, Nebr., was
held Tues., Feb. 27, at Davis mortuary at Tarkio, Mo. with the Rev. E. E. Basye
officiating. Mrs. Clark died
February 24 in Papillion, Nebr. Interment was at St. Paul's Cemetery northwest
of Tarkio.
Mrs.
Clark was a longtime resident of
the Northboro, Mo., area and later moved to Omaha, Neb. She was a member of the
St. Paul Lutheran Church, northwest of Tarkio.
She
is survived by a son, Gilbert Walter, Omaha; a daughter, Mrs. Lavada Evans, Tarkio; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Thogmartin, Bedford, Iowa, and Mrs. Mable Staashelm, Sac City, Iowa; a brother, Glen Sundermann, Clarinda, Iowa and seven grandchildren.

Funeral
services for Mrs. Dale F. (Lela Fern) Clement, 78, of Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Guss, Iowa,
were held May 29 at the Guss United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Schroyer
and Rev. Edward Osburn officiating. Mrs. Clement died May 26, 1973 at her home in Clarinda.
Interment was at the Guss Cemetery.
Lela
Fern Clement was born March 24,
1895 on a farm near Iveyville, Iowa to Edward and Mary Seymour Rogers.
Her
childhood years, except for the four years she spent in Ellison, Illinois, were
spent in Taylor County, Iowa.
She
joined the Maple Grove Methodist Church in her early years and was a Sunday
school teacher and a faithful and devoted worker in the church.
On
October 8, 1919, she was united in marriage to Dale F. Clement in Clarinda, Iowa. To this union were born six
children, Dean Edward of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa; Glen Joseph of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Mrs. Travis (Beulah)
Powell of Peoria, Illinois; George
Elmo of Jefferson City, Missouri; Mrs. William (Ardyce) Kane of
Council Bluffs, Iowa and Carmen Dale of Villisca, Iowa.
She
and her husband moved to Nodaway, Iowa in the spring of 1920 and lived there
until the fall of 1922 when they moved back on the home place near Guss, Iowa,
where they lived until the first of November, 1925. At that time they moved to
Hettinger County in North Dakota, where they farmed until the fall of 1929 when
they moved into the town of Mott, North Dakota. Here they lived until March
1930, when they moved back to Iowa near Guss. She has spent the last eight
years in Clarinda.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, one
half-brother, one half-sister and one daughter-in-law.
Surviving
are four sons; two daughters; two sons-in-law; four daughters-in-law; 16 grandchildren;
one half-brother, Donald Rogers,
of Seattle, Wash.; two nephews of Sterling, Colorado; a host of friends and
other relatives.

Funeral
services for Mrs. John Gibson,
65, of Gravity, held November 21 at the Gravity United Methodist Church, were
conducted by Rev. Robert Truitt. Mrs. Gibson died November 18, 1973 in her Gravity home.
Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
Flora
Louise Staab, the daughter of Wendelin
and Mary Catherine Staab, was
born near Valley Falls, Kansas, on December 9, 1907.
She
attended public schools there and later attended State Teachers College at
Emporia, Kansas. She obtained her teaching certificate and then taught for nine
years in Kansas public schools.
On
February 4, 1939, she married John Delbert Gibson. To this union were born four children, John,
Linda, Dan and Lyle. The family
moved to Gravity, Iowa in 1951.
Mrs.
Gibson was active in her
community. She was avidly interested in education, a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary, WSCS, and a member of the Sunshine Club. She was a loving
wife, a devoted mother, and a friend to everyone.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clarence, Elmer, Leo,
Ed, and Dewey; and two sisters, Freda and Mae. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, John and Teri Gibson, Omaha, Nebr.; Jim and Linda McClurg, Bettendorf, Ia.; Dan and Claudia Gibson, Carmichael, Calif, and Lyle Gibson, Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren, Eric Hayden

services for Frank Harry Gunson,
68, of rural Blockton, held March 17 at the Bedford Baptist Church, were
conducted by Rev. Ollie Odle. Mr. Gunson died March 15, 1973 at his home in rural Blockton. Interment was at
Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Frank
H. [arry] Gunson, son of John
and Lillie Rawlings Gunson, was
born near Bedford, in Taylor County, Iowa, September 1, 1904.
Frank
grew to adulthood in Taylor County where he attended the public schools and
took an active part in sports while in Bedford High School.
On
August 14, 1932, he was united in marriage to Ople Waterman at Maryville, Missouri, and to this union two
children were born.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George, who died in infancy.
Mr.
Gunson spent his lifetime as a
farmer in the Taylor County community. He loved nature and the land, and chose
to devote his life to caring for the acres he felt were entrusted to him.
He
leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ople of the home; his two children, Joe and his wife, Judy, of Omaha, Nebr.; Janet and her husband, John Whitten, of Denver, Colo.; one step-grandson, Jeff; a sister, Ruth Barks, Sheridan, Mo.; one brother, Jerry Gunson, Denver, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and many
friends.
Mr.
Gunson was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Bedford for 57 years where he served faithfully as long as
his health permitted.
During
his long illness he was very patient and considerate of those who cared for
him.
He
was a kind, considerate husband, father and neighbor, always willing to give help to those in need.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tommy
(Jessie A. [nn]) Harris, 82, of
New Market were held Sunday, March 25, at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, conducted by Loren Daly. Mrs.
Harris died March 22, 1973, at
her home northeast of New Market following an extended illness. Interment was at Dallas Center
Cemetery.
Mrs.
Harris, the daughter of Miles
and Ann Reeves Shore, was born
near Beloit, Kansas, December 3, 1890. At the age of three months she moved
with her parents to a farm east of New Market. She attended school in New
Market and was graduated in 1906.
She
attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1908 and taught four
years in the rural schools, Fairview, Lindsey, Turner, and Prairie Gem, near
New Market.
On
February 14, 1912, she was married to Thomas A. Harris at her parents' home in New Market. They lived on
the Harris family farm for 61 years.
She
was a member of the New Market Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, and
a Charter member of the W.T. Club.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Oren (Pearl)
Crawford and Mrs. George
(Grace) Webb, a son-in-law, George
Flora, and a grandson, Thomas
Groff Harris.
Besides
her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ethelyn Flora of Niles, Michigan; a son, Lyle, and daughter-in-law, Mary, of New Market, four grandchildren, Mrs.

Walter Herbert, 87 Rites Held July 19 In Creston
Funeral
services for Walter Roy Herbert,
87, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Bedford, were held July 19 at the
Keating-McKasson Funeral Chapel in Creston, Ia., conducted by Carl Cummings and
Lester Pearson, minister of the Creston Christian Church. Mr. Herbert died at Greater Community Hospital in Creston
July 17, 1973. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mt. Ayr.
Walter
Roy Herbert, son of Isaac H.
and Matilda Townsend Herbert, was
born near Hopkins; Missouri, March 7, 1886.
He
moved with his parents to a farm near Bedford, Iowa, when he was a small lad
and here he grew to adulthood and, with the exception of a few years spent
in Kansas when his parents homesteaded, he has continued to live almost the balance of his
life in Iowa.
On
February 20, 1907, he was united in marriage to Bell Olson at Bedford, and to them two daughters were born, Gladys and Florence.
He
chose farming as his life's occupation and owned and lived on various farms in
Taylor and Ringgold County until he moved to Creston in 1955, where he has
since continued to reside.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bell, who died December 24,1955; daughter, Florence, who died December 7, 1938; and two sisters, Mary
Whicker and Florence Cummings.
On
February 4, 1959 he was united in marriage to Elsie Rasmussen at Omaha, Nebraska.
He
is survived by his wife, Elsie,
of the home; a daughter, Gladys Marsh, of Douglas, Wyoming; a step-son, Don M. Rasmussen, of Creston; nine grandchildren; several great
grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
He
was a member of the Baptist Church.
He
will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Schuster, was born in Ringgold
County, Iowa, March 9, 1938. She attended school and spent most of her life
around Blockton with the exception of a few years in Chicago, Ill.
On
March 3, 1957 she was united in marriage to Victor Hobbs. To this union two children were born: Valerie and Kevin.
She
was helpful to everyone, and was a good Boy Scout mother. Many times she spent
a double shift, preparing and serving dinner with the Scout mothers and then
working a full shift at employment in Creston, Ia. She was a good mother, a
loyal neighbor and a friend to all who formed her acquaintance.
She
is preceded in death by her father, Clyde, and one brother, Donald Gene.
Those
surviving are: daughter, Valerie Jo,
son, Kevin Eugene, of the
home; mother, Letha Schuster;
one sister, Marie, and
husband, Lawrence Jackson; two
brothers, Dean and Garry, and wife, Regina; nephews; nieces; other relatives and friends.
She

She
was united in marriage to Homer Spoonemore Nov. 27, 1927. To this union seven children were born: Vivian Bichsel, White Deer, Texas, Claude and Gus of Indio, Calif., Flondene Stemstrom, Orven, Wisc., Romana Jenning, Twyla and Edwin of Omaha, Nebr.
She
is survived by her children; 25 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three
sisters, and two brothers -- Zelma Weese of Athelstan, Reva Bownes of Clarinda, Cecil Smith of Gravity, Curtis Smith of
Pacific Junction, Iowa, Blanche Schipper of Kansas City, Kansas; a number of nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister, Alma, one brother, Emory, and two grandchildren.
In
later years she was married to Ray Hogueison, Omaha, Nebr.
Dorothy spent most of her life in Taylor County. She will be sadly missed
by her relatives and friends.

Funeral
services for Harmon Elmer Patrick,
74, of Waterloo, Ia., formerly of Blockton, were held February 21 at Locke
Funeral Home in Waterloo with the Reverend Don B. Manworren, pastor of Central
Christian Church officiating. Mr. Patrick died at his home February 19, 1973. Interment was at Garden of
Memories, Waterloo. Becker-Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion participated
in the flag folding ceremony.
Harmon
Elmer Patrick, second son of William
H. and Cora (Anderson) Patrick,
was born in Ringgold County, Iowa (near Redding) on January 17 1899.
He
lived in the Blockton area until he enlisted in the U.S. Army May 6 1917 and
served in Hawaii until his discharge September 2, 1919. He returned to Blockton
High School and was graduated with the class of 1920. "Big Pat" as he
was known was very interested in sports during school and later years.
He
was an employee of the Chicago and Great Western railroad, in the Bridge and
Building Department almost 35 years, until his disability retirement in 1961.
Since then he had made his home with his niece, Mrs. Anna Laura Bradfield of Waterloo, Ia.
Mr.
Patrick had had emphysema for
several years. His condition became serious in August 1972.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Pearl and Alice, and three brothers, Elgin, Arthur and an infant.
His
survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Selma Brashear of Waterloo, Ia., and Mrs. Raymond (Beaulah)
West of Sheridan, Mo.; three
nephews and three nieces, including Mrs. Anna Laura Bradfield of 1213 Columbia Street with whom he lived.

Douglas Richardson was born March
30, 1951 in Clarinda, Iowa.
He
was a graduate of the Bedford Community High School 1969 and served his time in
the United States Army.
On
August 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to Linda Whited and to this union two sons were born, Brian and Jason.
At
the time of his death he was employed by the Boomsma Eggs Company of Pella,
Iowa.
He
is survived by his wife and sons of Knoxville; parents, Ben and Irene Wright
Richardson of Bedford; sisters, Caroline
Sue and husband, Robert King, of Marble Rock, Ia., Connie Lea and husband, James Whitt, of Knoxville, Cleva Irene and Jerri Renae at home; other relatives and friends.
He
shall be deeply missed by all who dearly loved him.

was born near Parnell, Missouri, December 15, 1889.
He
spent his early years in Missouri moving with his family to Taylor County,
Iowa, near Bedford, in the spring of 1912, and to their present home in 1915 where
he has since continued to reside.
On
July 28, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Chloris [Blanche Matheny] McCurdy, and to this union two children were born, Glen and Mary Ann. Completing this family group were his brother, Roy Sharp and two step children. Gayland McCurdy of Clarinda, Iowa, and Mrs. Gail Fitzhugh of Waterloo, Iowa.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Luther Sharp,
and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wright and Mrs.
Addie Million, one granddaughter, Brenda Lee Sharp.

Bradley Rankin, was born January
6, 1887, at Lyons, Kansas. As a child she moved with her parents in a covered
wagon to Bedford where she spent the remainder of her life.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Herbert (Grace) Skinner, 86, of
Bedford, long time Taylor County resident, were held May 25 at Shum - Novinger
Funeral Home conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Skinner died May
22, 1973 at Colonial Manor here. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
She was united in
marriage to Herbert Grey Skinner,
January 17, 1909, in Bedford. To this union was born one daughter, Hazel, who is now Mrs. Robert Perkins.
Mrs.
Skinner and her husband lived on
a farm near Bedford until 1959 when they moved to their home in Bedford. She
did beautiful handwork and spent many hours doing gardening and raising
flowers.
Mrs
Skinner was a member of the
Bedford Christian Church since early girlhood. She was a loyal worker and
attended church faithfully as long as her health permitted.
She
was devoted to her family. Her three granddaughters and their husbands and her
three great granddaughters were her pride and joy.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died November 17, 1964,
one brother and two sisters.
She
is survived by her daughter, Hazel,
and her husband, Robert; three
granddaughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fussner, St. Louis, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shepherd,
Jr., Vinton, Iowa, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Dawson, Bedford;
three great granddaughters, Kimberlee Kae Shepherd, Christina Kay Dawson, Paige Allison Shepherd; one niece; two nephews and their families; and
several cousins.
She
will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Many loving memories will
remain forever, because to know her was to love her.
