Jennie Helen Tracy Hicks

Jennie Helen Tracy was born near Pickering, Mo., March 1, 1891, and departed this life in the early morning of February 21, 1920.  She was united in marriage to L. [ester] G. [uy] Hicks, June 14, 1916.  Feb. 15, 1920, a baby girl, Frances Helen, was born.  The little one did not live to be a blessing to her parents, but passed on into the hands of the Giver of life.

Mrs. Hicks gave her heart to Jesus Christ when but a little child, and proved her loyalty and love to her Master by entering into many activities of His service.

For several years she was president of the Epworth League.  Prior to this, Mrs. Hicks had been the leader of the Spiritual department of the young Peoples work.  She was active in the Sunday school and in the church her place will be missed.

In June 1911 the deceased graduated from the Bedford high school.  Wherever she lived she was helpful to those about her, and received joy in making others happy.  The beautiful sweet life, which she lived, will continue on in the lives of her neighbors and friends.  She wanted to live that she might be useful to her Lord, in whom she put her trust, and with the faith of a child followed her Divine Master:

I Know not the way I am going,

But well do I know my Guide!

With a childlike trust do I give

my hand

To the mighty Friend by my

side;

And the only thing that I say

to Him,

As He takes it, is, ÒHold it

fast!

Suffer me not to lose my way,

And lead me home at last.Ó

No soldier ever put forth a more heroic fight than did Mrs. Hicks during the last week of her life.  It is a great consolation to know that this brave sweet soul is now with our Great Commander.

Those who are left to cherish the memory of the precious life are the husband, L.[ester] G. [uy] Hicks of Bedford; Mr. and Mrs. L. [evi] T. [hompson] Tracy [Nancy Jane Lefever], her father and mother, four brothers and one sister:  Frank [Beman] of Afton, Charles [Jesse]  and John [Otto] of Bedford, [Levi] Bert of Maryville, Mo., and Mrs. M. [arion] L. Rickard [Margaret Elizabeth Masters] of Pickering, Mo.  There are also four nephews and seven nieces.  The entire neighborhood feels this bereavement sorely.

Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. John F. Arnold, Sunday afternoon, from the east porch of the Hicks home.  Interment in South Lawn.
