Eva Mae Grubb Rites May 2
Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob (Eva Mae) Grubb, 92, long time Taylor County resident, held May 2 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Mr. Carl Cummings. Mrs. Grubb died April 29, 1970 at the Lenox Nursing Home in Lenox, Iowa. Interment was at Conway Cemetery.
Eva Mae Grubb, daughter of George I. [saiah] Siebert and Kattie [Katie] E. [Athey] Siebert, was born August 4, 1876 at New Holland, Illinois.
She was united in marriage to Jacob K. Grubb August 26, 1897. To this union one son, Calvin Glade, was born.
Mr. and Mrs. Grubb engaged in farming until the year 1916, when they were elected to the Mutual Telephone Office in Conway, where they worked for 13 years. They then moved to Gravity where they served in the same capacity for 11 years, retiring in the spring of 1939.
Her husband and son Glade preceded her in death.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Estel McMahill, Calvin Grubb, and Dorothea Marinus; seven [great] grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; two sisters, Wadie Manroe, Sweetwater, Texas and Harriet Mendenhall, Des Moines, Iowa; a host of relatives and friends.

Obituary Jacob Grubb
Jacob K. [arr] Grubb, son of Colvin and Emily [Lewis] Grubb, was born June 16, 1870 in Louisa County, near Winfield, Iowa and died at his home in Gravity March [4th] 1940, aged 69 years, 8 months and 18 days. In the fall of 1877 his parents moved to Taylor County near Conway.
He was married to Eva Siebert August 26, 1897. To them one son was born, Colvin Glade.
Mr. Grubb was converted in 1923, united with the Methodist church and lived that faith until the end. He was a great lover of his home and family and lived a very quiet life. A few weeks ago he took the flu, which finally developed into pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Grubb engaged in farming until the year 1916 when they were elected to the Mutual Telephone office in Conway, where they worked for thirteen years. Then they moved to Gravity, where they served in the same capacity for eleven years, retiring in the spring of 1939 to their present home.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Glade and wife; three grandchildren, Estel, Colvin and Dorothea; and a great grandchild, Mitzie Kay McMahill, all of Gravity. Also by one sister, Mrs. Eva Lambley of Conway, thirteen nieces and nephews.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 6, in the Gravity Methodist church and burial was in the Conway Cemetery. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. Mr. Biggerstaff.

Lloyd Grubb, 61, Died October 22
Lloyd Chester Grubb died suddenly at his home north of Bedford Friday, Oct. 22 at 11:45 p. m. of a heart attack, at the age of 61 years.
He is survived by his wife Bertha; five children, Lillian Gamel of Bedford, Chester, who is in Germany in the Army Air Corps, Gladys Gamel of Hopkins, Frances Allen of Prescott, Hazel Hatfield of Bedford; two brothers, Garrett and Milton of Anthony, Kans; one sister, Audrey of Conway.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Wednesday, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. Robert M. Peters. Interment in the Conway cemetery.

Lloyd C. Grubb Rites At Conway Friday
Lloyd Chester Grubb, son of William L. [arkin] and Samantha Watkins Grubb, was born August 21, 1893, near Conway, Iowa, and died at his home near Bedford, Oct. 22, 1954 at the age of 61 years, two months, one day.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Bedford Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1954 at 2 p. m. by Rev. Robt. M. Peters, minister of the church. Burial was in the Conway cemetery.
He attended rural schools near Conway and there he grew to manhood. He was married to Bertha C.[larice] Jarvis, Jan. 30, 1918, in Conway.
To them were born six children: Mrs. Glen Gamel (Lillian) of Bedford, M.Sgt. Chester L. Grubb, U. S. Air Force, Germany, Mrs. Dannie Gamel (Gladys) of Hopkins, Mrs. Howard Allen (Frances) Prescott, Elton W. [illiam] Grubb (deceased 1926); Mrs. Dale Hatfield (Hazel) of Bedford.
Besides his beloved companion and the five living children, he leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Manta Grubb of Conway; two brothers, Garrett and Milton Grubb of Anthony, Kans.; one sister, Miss Audrey Grubb of Conway; eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Grubb was converted when 18 years of age and united with the Methodist church in Conway. From there he transferred to the Methodist church in Bedford in 1929.
Mr. Grubb spent his entire life in the vicinity of Conway and Bedford.
Mr. Grubb had been in poor health for the past three years but his sudden passing was a great shock to his wife and children and the other loved ones.

Glade Grubb Dies In Bedford Monday
Glade Grubb, 62, a resident of Taylor County for many years, died at the Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford, Monday, October 31, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service Home on State Street Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Anthony Blankers of the Bedford Methodist Church officiated. Burial in Conway cemetery.
Mr. Grubb is survived by his mother, Mrs. Eva Grubb of Lenox, by two daughters, Estel, now Mrs. Art McMahill of Bentonville, Ark., and Dorothy, Mrs. David Marines of Rochester, Minn.; by one son, Calvin Grubb of Ogden, Utah. There are also seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Obituary - Glade Grubb
Calvin Glade Grubb was born in Taylor County, Iowa on August 14, 1898 and passed away at the Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford, October 31, 1960 at the age of 62 years, two months, 17 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary [Etta] Munn and five children were born to them, three of whom survive to mourn his loss. They are Estel McMahill of Bentonville, Arkansas; Calvin Grubb of Ogden, Utah; Dorothea Marinus of Rochester, Minnesota. A daughter, Cleta Marie, and a son, Ivan Cecil, died in infancy.
Also surviving him are his mother, Mrs. Eva Grubb of Lenox; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren. His father, Jake Grubb, preceded him in death.

Mary Grubb, 68, Rites Held Here June 19
Funeral services for Mrs. Glade (Mary Etta) Grubb, 68, of Omaha, were held June 19 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Grubb died June 17, 1971 at University Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. Interment was at Conway Cemetery, Conway.
Mary Etta, daughter of Dave and Ida [Mae Loupee] Munn, was born October 12, 1902 in Jasper County, Iowa.
Mary was united in marriage to Calvin Glade Grubb in February 1918 and to them five children were born to bless their home and to share their love.
They lived in and near Conway and Gravity until 1941 when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glade; parents; and two children, Ivan Cecil and Cleta Marie; three brothers, Forrest Munn, Raymond Munn, and George Munn; one sister, Gladys Stubbe.
She is survived by her three children: Estel McMahill, of Bentonville, Arkansas, Calvin Grubb of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and Dorothea Marinus of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Gold, Mrs. Mable Burch, Mrs. Nora Fuller, Mrs. Edith Harsha and Mrs. Lois Stubbe; two brothers: Dave Munn and Bobby Munn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Early in her youth she joined the Conway Methodist Church. She was a kind and loving mother, sister, and friend, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Obituary
Ivan Cecil, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Glade Grubb [Mary Etta Munn], was born Jan. 16, 1922, and died Feb. 7, 1922, at 9 oÕclock p. m., aged 3 weeks and one day. Little Ivan was an unusually bright baby. He seemed well until Monday morning when he was stricken with pneumonia. He was too delicate to withstand the dread disease.
The hearts of all who saw this little one were brightened and cheered, only to be saddened by his sudden death. He leaves to mourn their loss, his father and mother and one sister Estelle and one brother, Calvin, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. [avid] L. Munn of Newton, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. J. [acob] K. Grubb of Conway, Ia., besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The loved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
Truly, Jesus said, ÒSuffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.Ó
Funeral services were held at the home at 2 oÕclock Thursday, conducted by Rev. Brown of Conway.

Mrs. Manta Grubb Dies At Conway
Mrs. Manta Grubb, 90, a long time resident of Conway, died at her home there Monday afternoon, February 24, after an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be held at the Conway Methodist church at two p. m., Thursday, February 27, Rev. Howard DeVore officiating. Burial in Conway cemetery.
Mrs. Grubb is survived by a daughter, Miss Audrey Grubb of the home; two sons, Garrett Grubb and Milton Grubb of Anthony, Kans. There are several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Manta Grubb Rites Held At Conway
Funeral services for Mrs. Manta Grubb of Conway were held at the Conway Methodist Church Thursday afternoon, February 27, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Howard DeVore. Burial in Conway cemetery.
Louisa Samantha Watkins, daughter of J. [ehiel] G. and Frances [Monger Keenan] Watkins, was born March 25, 1867 in McDonough County, near McComb, Ill., and died at her home in Conway, Feb. 25, 1958 at the age of 90 years, 10 months, 29 days.
She came to Taylor County in 1876 with her parents [and] settled on a farm three miles east of Conway, where she resided until she was married to William L.[arkin] Grubb of Conway on Feb. 16, 1890. To them six children were born, three boys and three girls. Two daughters preceded her in death, Edith Mae and Mildred. Mr. Grubb died Jan. 14, 1937 and a son, Lloyd, on Oct. 22, 1954.
She is survived by two sons, Garrett C. Grubb and Milton L. Grubb of Anthony, Kans., and by one daughter, Miss Audrey Grubb of the home. Also by seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Grubb was one of eight children and the two brothers living are J. [ames] E. Watkins of Chillicothe, Mo., and B. E. Watkins [Roscoe B.] of Wichita, Kans.
She united with the Methodist church at the age of 15 and lived that Christian faith in her home and community.
She had been a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 60 years.
Mrs. Grubb had been in failing health the past seven years, when on Jan. 11, 1951 she fell and broke her shoulder.

Mrs. Lloyd Grubb Rites August 3
Funeral services for Mrs. Lloyd (Bertha Clarice) Grubb, 73, lifetime Taylor County resident, held August 3 at the Bedford Methodist Church, were conducted by Rev. Richard Viney. Mrs. Grubb died at Rosary Hospital in Corning July 31. Interment was at Conway Cemetery.
Bertha Clarice Grubb, daughter of Elmer and Minnie [May Hogue] Jarvis, was born December 14, 1894, on a farm near Platteville.
Bertha spent her early childhood at the place of [her] birth until she was six years old. Then they moved to a farm near Bedford where she lived until January 30, 1918, when she was united in marriage to Lloyd C. [hester] Grubb.
To this union were born six children: Elton Grubb, who lived one year and passed away in 1926, Mrs. Dale (Hazel) Hatfield, Lexington, Nebr.; Mrs. Howard (Frances) Allen, Prescott, Iowa; Mrs. Dannie (Gladys) Gamel, Hopkins, Mo.; Chester L. Grubb, Alexandria, La.; Mrs. Glen (Lillian) Gamel, Bedford.
Others surviving are: two sisters, Mrs. Lou (Wilda) Ackley and Mrs. Oliver (Irma) Safely; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of neighbors and friends.
Besides her son she was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Mrs. Grubb was a member of the First Methodist Church of Bedford for a number of years.
She was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Obituary of Audrey Grubb
Audrey Emily Grubb, 61, daughter of Wm. [Larkin] and [Louisa] Samantha [Watkins] Grubb, was born March 5, 1904 in Conway, Ia., and died Dec. 14, 1965 in Anthony, Kansas.
She grew up in Conway, Ia., where she received her high school education and was a graduate of Maryville Teachers College, of Maryville, Mo. She lived her entire life in the vicinity of Conway and taught school in Taylor County for 42 years, 30 of which she taught in the Conway school system.
She had been named to Delta Kappa Gamma society.
As a small girl she was united with the Methodist church and has kept faith ever since. She was Sunday school superintendent, taught several Sunday school classes, and was a devoted church worker. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and had been through the chairs. She was also a member of the B. P. W. Club.
Her parents and one brother, Lloyd, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two brothers, Jack and Milton Grubb, both of Anthony, and several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Mrs. Dannie Gamel [Gladys Grubb] of Hopkins was a niece.
She was loved by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Fri., Dec. 17, at the Parsons Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony, Kans.

Mrs. E. N. Jarvis
Minnie May Hogue was born in Madison County, Iowa, June 8, 1873, and passed away from her home in Bedford, Iowa, on January 11th, 1930, at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 3 days. Mrs. Jarvis has spent her entire life in the state of Iowa,, grew to womanhood within its boundary lines, and was united in marriage to Mr. E. [lmer] N. [ewton] Jarvis on December 14, 1892. To this happy union three children were born as follows: Mrs. Bertha Grubb, Mrs. Irma Safely and Miss Wilda Jarvis at home, all of Bedford, Iowa. Mrs. Jarvis united with the Brethren Church in Blockton, Iowa, very early in life, and was a member of that church at the time of her death. Mrs. Jarvis leaves to mourn her departure her loving husband, Mr. E. [lmer] N. [ewton] Jarvis, her three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Grubb, Mrs. Irma Safely, and Miss Wilda Jarvis, all of Bedford, Ia.; her mother of Rush, Colo.; four brothers, J. [ohn] W. [esley] Hogue of Rush, Colo.; A.[lfred] C. [urtis] Hogue of Westcliff, Colo.; G. [eorge] M. [arion] Hogue of St. Joseph, Mo.; and J. [oshua] E. [dmond] Hogue of New Rockford, N. D. She leaves many more friends and relatives who will miss her loving [word unclear].
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 oÕclock, conducted by Clark M. Crowell. Interment was made in the Fairview Cemetery.

Elmer N. Jarvis
Mr. Elmer N. [ewton] Jarvis, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. [William Henry] Jarvis [Martha Simpson], was born in the state of Ohio, September 26, 1869, and departed this life from his home in Bedford, Iowa, on Feb. 16, 1933, at the age of 63 years, 4 months and 21days. He moved with his parents to the state of Iowa where he grew to manhood.
On December 14, 1892, he was united in marriage to Minnie M. [ay] Hogue.
To them were born three children, Mrs. Bertha Grubb, Mrs. Irma Safely and Miss Wilda Jarvis, all of Bedford.
Surviving him are his three daughters; three brothers, Charley Jarvis, Hydro, Okla.; Clint Jarvis, Cache, Okla.; Ora Jarvis, State of Illinois; two sisters, Myrtle Lyons, Lakeport, Cal.; Blanche Ostrander, San Mateo, Calif.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 oÕclock in the Wetmore Funeral Home with the Rev. C. M. Crowell of the Baptist church delivering the sermon.
Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery.

Paul Spencer Burial At Hopkins
Funeral services for Paul Spencer were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home, February 21, conducted by a former pastor of the Hopkins Baptist church, Rev. Norman Lewis of Forest City, Mo. Burial in Hopkins cemetery.
Andrew Paul Spencer, son of [William] Penn and Eva [Underwood] Spencer, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, Jan. 20, 1892 and died at Des Moines in Veterans hospital, Feb. 9, 1958, at [the] age of 66 years and 29 days.
He lived practically all his life close to his birthplace, living one year in Pennsylvania in his infancy.
He was a member of Plumb Lodge No. 285, A. F. & A. M. at Siam, which held Masonic rites. He was also a veteran of World War I. He united with the Methodist church at Hopkins in his youth.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lela Blake of Bedford, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers, Fred, Howard and Lee.

Mrs. W. P. Spencer Dies March 22nd
Mrs. W. [illiam] P. [enn] Spencer died at her home southwest of Bedford Monday, March 22, 1943. The funeral services were held at the Walker & Shum Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Hopkins cemetery.
Eva Underwood, daughter of [Emanuel] Lewis and Harriett [Phillips] Underwood, was born July 4, 1866, at Center Moreland, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, being aged 76 years, 6 months and 18 days at the time of her death.
On March 26, 1901, she was married to W. [illiam] P. [enn] Spencer. To them were born five children: Freddie, who died at the age of three years; Paul Spencer of the home, Lee Spencer, Mrs. Lela Blake and Howard Spencer, all of Bedford. Mr. Spencer died May 8, 1934.
Surviving with the four children are 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She united with the Baptist church about 27 years ago.

Mrs. Sarah Long, 90, Died November 26
Mrs. Sarah [Elizabeth Little] Long died Monday, Nov. 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Doud Hunter [Emma Catherine], in the Conway community.
She would have been 90 years old had she lived until Nov. 28, the day of her burial. The funeral services were held at the Christian church in New Market Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. W. Kratzer. Burial was in the Memory cemetery.
Mrs. Long was the widow of a civil war veteran, Anson D. Long, who died twenty years ago. They were pioneers of this section of the state and she had spent all but two years of her life in Taylor and Page counties, New Market and Hepburn being where she resided in Page County.
She was unusually rugged for one of her age, and maintained her own home in Hepburn until only a few weeks ago. She was the mother of five children, all having preceded her in death except two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Dirrim of Hepburn and Mrs. Hunter.

Mrs. [William] Orlando Allison [Julia Ettie Chamberlain] died at her home in Palisade, Colo., Saturday. She is a former resident of Sheridan. Her sister, Mrs. Charley Holliday [Nellie Gladys] of Sheridan attended the funeral in Colorado.

Mrs. E. S. Putnam Dies Here Saturday
Mrs. E. [dwin] S. [idney] Putnam of Bedford died here Saturday, March 25, after having been in failing health for several years.
Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service Home on State Street, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ivo Randels, pastor of the Christian Church, of which she had been a member since girlhood. Burial in Fairview cemetery.
Mabel A. Snyder, oldest child of J. [ames] B. and Res [sa] [Bessie Thomas] Snyder, was born November 13, 1881, in Taylor County where she had lived all of her life. She passed away at the age of 79 years, four months, 12 days.
She was married to Edwin S. [idney] Putnam on January 3, 1900, at the parental home in Bedford, and to them was born one son, Harry E. Putnam of Bedford.
She is survived by her husband, her son and his wife, one granddaughter, one great grandson. Also a brother, Harry Snyder, of Torrance, California.

W. O. Patton Rites Here Saturday
W. O. Patton, a long-time butcher in Bedford, died at University Hospital, Iowa City, Wednesday, April 19, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home on State Street, Saturday afternoon, April 22, conducted by Rev. Colvin Caughey. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
William Orin Patton, son of Sara Davis and John Zion Patton, was born June 15, 1885 at Derby, Ia., and passed away at the age of 75 years, 10 months, three days.
On Dec. 25, 1904 he was married to Alice Cope of Livingston, Kentucky. To this union four children were born, Bulah and Charlie died in infancy.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Wood of Bedford, Mrs. Archie Fisher of Maryville; three grandchildren, Richard Fisher of Gila Bend, Arizona, Sally Fisher Lieb, Jr., of St. Joseph, Donald Fisher of Maryville; two great granddaughters, Debbie Lieb and Elaine Fisher.
He was a member of the Baptist church and of Bedford Lodge No. 91, I. O. O. F.
