Obituary Elizabeth J. Miller

Elizabeth J. [ane] Acree was born in Jamestown, Ind., Nov. 9, 1855 and died at her home near Siam, Iowa July 14, 1918, Aged 62 years, 8 months, and 5 days.

In childhood she moved with her parents to Braddyville, Iowa in the year of 1861. And here grew to womanhood in the early history of the country. She was married to M. [ilton] W. [eston] Miller July 4, 1876. At her parents’ home near Siam and to this union were born three children John H. [uston], Mrs. Lola [Ann] Reid and William W. [eston], all of this vicinity.

She united with the church of Christ in early girlhood at Bedford, Iowa and has ever been an active worker, devoted always to the best interests of her Lord and the church. She had been ailing for some time, having had a stroke of paralysis about eleven years ago. More recent strokes brought about her late ailments during which time the most skillful medical assistance was secured until the last. When the peaceful hour came and she passed by the need of earthly care.

It may be truthfully said of her that she was a most kind and devoted wife and mother whose first care was always that of her family. And a neighbor who was ever ready to render a favor or give assistance in sickness or time of need.

She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, three children and five grandchildren. Also three brothers, J. [acob] A. [lbert] Acree, of this place; J.[ames] F. [ranklin] Acree, of Colorado and J. [ohn] M. [athew] Acree of Pomona, California. Two sisters and one brother, father and mother preceded her in death.

In the fullest terms we may say she was all that could be said of wife, mother and Christian. The funeral was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Gilpin, assisted by Rev. R. C. Snodgrass of Clarinda, Iowa and Rev. R. E. Snodgrass of Savannah, Mo., whom she had known from boyhood. In the presence of neighbors and friends of a lifetime acquaintance.

His illness was of long duration but he remained cheerful through it all. Never a word of complaint passed his lips and with patience and fortitude he faced the inevitable.

He was exceeding kind to his family and always considerate of their welfare and his children may hold in sacred memory the life of a kind hearted and devoted parent.
