[Connor, Ada Scott] Bedford Times-Press Thursday November 14, 1963 p. 4 Ada S. Connor Rites Nov. 9 Funeral services for Ada Scott Connor, 79, held Nov. 9 in the Conway Methodist Church, were conducted by Rev. James Sheckler. Mrs. Connor died at her home in Conway Nov. 6. Interment was at Conway cemetery, Conway, Ia. Included in the services was the following obituary: Ada Scott, daughter of Harry and Mary Ellen [Paine] Scott, was born Aug. 27, 1884 in Spink County, So. Dak. and died Nov. 6, 1963 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Charles David Connor at Omaha, Nebr., Dec. 24, 1908. To this union were born eight children: Hazel Miller, Conway; Ethel Law, Mankato, Minn.; Ralph Connor, Essex, Ia.; Helen O’Grady, Conway; Mary Hamilton, Palmer, Alaska; Betty Jeane (deceased); Harold Connor, Armed Forces, Germany; Charles Connor, Martinez, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1937; one daughter in 1924 and one granddaughter in 1944. She is survived by seven children; seven grandchildren; three half sisters; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist church. The home was filled with friends who sympathise with them in their sorrow. The funeral was conducted at the home by Rev. E. B. Borst, Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in the Conway cemetery. The sympathy of the community goes out to the Connor family. Bedford Times-Press Thursday February 4, 1937 p. 2 CONWAY CHARLES CONNOR DIES Was Resident of Conway Twenty-Three Years Charles Connor, 63, died at his home in Conway Saturday, Jan. 30, after a brief illness with pneumonia. The funeral services were held at the Conway Methodist church Monday afternoon, Feb. 1, conducted by Rev. Jas. Walls. Burial was in the Conway cemetery. OBITUARY Charles David Connor, son of John and Mary [Cyrena Lathrop] Connor, was born in Scott County, near Davenport, Iowa, August 24, 1873, and departed this life at his home in Conway, Jan. 30, 1937, at the age of sixty-three years, five months, and six days. He was one of eight children. One, Nellie Peterson, preceded him in death. Those surviving are Harry Connor of Omaha, Mrs. Margaret Peterson of San Francisco, Calif., Robert Connor of Bedford, Daisy Connor of Omaha, Hattie Miller of Bedford, and Grant Connor of Doland S Dak. He was married Dec. 24, 1908 to Ada Scott at Omaha, Nebr. To this union eight children were born: Betty Jean, an infant daughter preceded him in death. Hazel Connor of St. Joseph, Mrs. Clyde Neville of New Market, Ralph, Helen, Mary, Harold, and Charles, Jr. The wife and children survive. Most of Charley's life was spent in Taylor County, the last twenty-three years in Conway. He was a citizen of sterling quality, a devoted husband, and a kind and loving father. He will not soon be forgotten. By his family and many friends he will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Conway Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. F. B. Harris. Burial was in the Conway cemetery. Miss Connor was a long-time resident of Conway. Daisy Dean Connor, daughter of John P. and Mary [Cyrena Lathrop] Connor, was born in Scott County, Iowa, Feb. 23, 1875 and died Feb. 2, 1941 in Bedford at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 21 days. She became a member of the Methodist church at the age of twenty. Most of her life was spent in Conway and Bedford. She is survived by three brothers, Harry Connor of Omaha, Robert Connor of Bedford and Grant Connor of Doland, So. Dak.; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Pearson of Daly City, Calif., and Mrs. Hattie Miller of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was a kind and loving sister and will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Conway, Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. F. B. Harris. Burial was in the Conway cemetery. Bedford Free Press Thursday February 1, 1906 p. 8 —J. [ohn] P. Connor, an old resident of Conway, died Monday from tuberculosis. The funeral was held at Lenox yesterday. Mr. Connor was a highly esteemed citizen of Conway and had many friends throughout the county. [Connor, John P.] Bedford Times-Republican Friday February 2, 1906 p. 2 Aged Veteran Passes Away. John P. Connor, a veteran of the civil war, and an old and greatly respected citizen of Taylor county, died at his home in Conway at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, aged 68 years, 10 months and 7 days. The following obituary notice we take from the Conway Record: “In 1866 he was married to Mary C. [yrena] Lathrop, who still survives him. To this union were born eight children, all of whom have been privileged to be at the bedside of their beloved father during his late sickness to administer to his wants and ease his bed of pain as best they could. The children are: Harry Connor and Mrs. Maggie Pearson, of Omaha; Robert and Grant, of Davenport, and Charles, Daisy, Nellie and Hattie, of this city. Besides his family he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Stewart Gilmore, of Davenport, Iowa, and Mrs. R. E. Grace, of Avoca, Iowa, both of whom were unable to attend the funeral of their brother. "He was an honored member of Co. C, 20th Iowa Infantry, serving his country faithfully from 1862 until the close of the war. "He was a kind and devoted husband and father, and sorrow in the home caused by his death is deep and lasting. "Funeral services were conducted yesterday (Wednesday) at 10:30 at the Methodist church by Rev. Coe, after which the remains were conveyed to the Conway cemetery, where they were laid to await the final summons." Bedford Free Press Thursday October 25, 1923 p. 5 Obituary Mary Cyrena Lathrop was born Aug. 24, 1843, at La Port, Ind., and died at her home in Conway, Ia., Oct. 20, 1923, aged 80 years, 1 month and 23 days. When a small child she moved with her parents to Allen's Grove, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John P. Connor on June 7, 1866, at Davenport, Iowa. To this union was born eight children, Harry, and Mrs. Margaret Pearson of Omaha, Neb.; Robert, Charles and Daisy of Conway, Ia.; Grant of Dolan, S. Dak.; Mrs. Hattie Miller of Bedford, and Mrs. Nellie Peterson who passed away in 1910. All were present at the time of her death except one son, Grant of Dolan, S. Dak., who was unable to be present because of sickness. Besides her children she leaves eleven grand children and one brother who resides in California and a host of friends. In February 1876, she moved with her family to Taylor County where she resided until the time of her death. For twenty years she resided in Conway. Her husband passed away in 1906. She united with the Methodist church when a child and was a regular church attendant as long as her health permitted. She was a kind and devoted mother and also leaves a host of friends to mourn her departure. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by E. B.
Berst. Interment at Conway Cemetery. Bedford Times-Press Thursday August 28, 1947 p. 3 Obituary - Roy B. Cox Roy Bartley Cox, son of [John] Frank [lin] and Caroline [Sturm] Cox was born in Peoria County, Illinois, September 4, 1890 and died in Council Bluffs, August 21, at the age [of] 56 years, 11 months and 4 days. When he was a young man he joined the Blue Grove Christian church and later transferred his membership to the Methodist church at Creston. On August 31, 1918 he was married to Opal Seigfried of Union County, Iowa. To them were born two children, Mrs. Thelma Reed of Creston and Mrs. Mildred Murray of Orient. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Maude Dunn and Mrs. Blanche Johnson, both of Conway; one nephew, Merle Johnson of Grant City, Missouri; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. J. Weber. Burial was in the Conway cemetery. [Cummings, Catherine “Katie” Gaule] Lenox Time Table Thursday June 15, 1961 [p. 1] Katie Cummings Dies Mrs. Katie Cummings, 82, died at her home in Lenox at 10 p. m. Friday night. Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Estle Elder of Lenox; Mrs. Leola Edwards of Ventura, Cal.; Mrs Bessie LaFave of Denver, Colo.; 1 son, Eldred Cummings at home; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, Charley Gaule of Bedford; Dick Gaule of Diagonal; Patsy Gaule and Jimmy Gaule, both of Clearfield. Burial was at Conway. Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home on State Street, Tuesday afternoon, June 13. Rev. E. M. McGehee of the Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial in the Conway cemetery. Mrs. Cummings is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Estel Elder of Lenox, Mrs. Leola Edwards of Ventura, Calif., Mrs. Bessie LaFave of Denver, Colo.; one son, Eldred (Red) Cummings of Lenox; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. There are also four brothers, Charley Gaule of Bedford, Dick Gaule of Diagonal, Patsy Gaule and Jimmy Gaule of Clearfield. Graveside services for Mrs. Jessie Cunningham, 88, of Council Bluffs, Iowa were held on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Conway Cemetery with Rev. Virginia. Doherty officiating. She died January 25, 2000 at Loess Hills Nursing Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born in Mound City, Mo. She was a former resident of Bedford and has lived in Council Bluffs since 1942. In 1965 she married Harold Cunningham, who preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are son, George [Harold] and wife Lillian Cunningham of Council Bluffs, Iowa, daughter, Joyce and husband, James Mikesell of North Platte, Neb.; five grandchildren, Jim Mikesell, Teresa and Don Ehlers, Steve and wife Dona Mikesell, Randy and wife Marlene Cunningham, Shelly and husband Terry Andre and seven great grandchildren. Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
