Robert. D. Timberlake.

Robert D. [ouglas] Timberlake, who was stricken with pneumonia a few days ago, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. [homas] E. [lliott] Anderson, at 5:30 Saturday evening. A weak heart and a kidney trouble of long standing caused complications impossible for one of his age to resist.

Funeral services were held from his late home in Mason township Monday, December 13, at 1 p. m., conducted by Rev. C. W. Proctor, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Gravity and the Gilead church. Interment was in the Graceland cemetery west of town.

R. D. TIMBERLAKE

Robert Douglas Timberlake, (R. D. to all who knew him), age 75 years, one month, and 21 days, was born May 29, 1920 at Louisville, Kentucky to parents Claude Timberlake and Nancy Scott Timberlake. He died July 20,1995 in his home outside Bedford, Iowa after an extended battle with cancer.

R. D. was raised in the Taylor County area and graduated from Bedford High School. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa for a time until his mother's illness brought him home. Although he was raised in the Methodist Church he later was baptised and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford, where he served faithfully as a member for the rest of his life.

He was married on July 6, 1941 to his high school sweetheart, Helen Dowell, at Maryville, Missouri. To this union two daughters and one son were born. They settled in the Taylor County area where he lived the rest of his days outside of 17 months spent in the United States Army from April 1945 until August 1946. He was a member of one of the last Mule Pack organizations out of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he trained in field artillery. Because he was married with children at the time he was able to spend all of his time on the home front.

After his military experience he settled again in the Taylor County area where he farmed throughout his life until retirement. He also served with the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for 30 years.

He loved stamp collecting and was also an avid rock and mineral collector. He loved sharing about his collections with anyone, including speaking often at the school to various classes. It was not uncommon for many of these same students to make their way out to the Timberlake farm with their parents to see the rest of his vast collections.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Gideons International, the Hawkeye Gem and Mineral Club, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and had served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an only brother.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Timberlake of rural Bedford; daughter Rebecca Jane Daehler of Zion, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law Nancy Kay and Ronald Tribolet of Houston, Texas; and son and daughter-in-law Robert Douglas and Marilyn Timberlake of Topeka, Kansas.

Services were hosted by the Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home and held at the First Baptist Church of Bedford with Pastor Jamie Mogler officiating. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in rural Taylor County with Military Honors by the Bedford American Legion.
