Lydia Johnston Yeiser The Toledo Chronicle Mrs. Lydia Johnston Yeiser was born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. She was the fifth child of Uriah and Mary Keister Johnston. She was married to Jacob Yeiser, July 4, 1866. Mr. Yeiser was at that time county recorder of Tama County, which office he held for eight years. Mr. Yeiser died in the spring of 1878. At an early age Mrs. Yeiser was converted and joined the U. B. church, remaining in that church until her marriage. Then she went with her husband to the Methodist church, of which she was a member until her death. Her christian life was of the most beautiful and devoted nature. She was not physically strong for a number of years, yet she did what she could, and was ever ready to do her part. On the promise of God's word she rested as a child upon its father's word. Her generous spirit was a strong characteristic of her Christian life. She gave what she could to college and church and was happy in the experience of her liberty. On the morning of December 22 she awakened in "The Home of the Soul". She was given loving and constant attention during her sickness in the home of her brother, W. S. Johnston. The funeral services were held at the W. S. Johnston home, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Dr. W. L. Alexander, pastor of the Methodist church. President M. R. Drury assisted in the services. Music was furnished by the Methodist church choir, composed of Messrs. F. G. Haworth, Paul Ingersoll, H. P. Giger, and W. F. Shadle, with Mrs. H. P. Giger accompanist. Interment was in Woodlawn cemetery, the pallbearers being A. E. Budlong, H. G. Ross, J. B. Irons, H. Richards, J. F. Yothers and E. W. Richards." Submitted by: Gary Wade (GaryWOTR@aol.com) |
