Mrs. Letta Wall, Pioneer Carlton Woman, Is Dead

Had Been Resident of County About 50 Years

Mrs. Letta Wall, 83, widow of Henry Wall, died Monday morning about 7 o'clock at her home one-half mile east of the Carlton Brethren church. She had been sick only two days and was up early Monday morning but had a heart attack and returned to her bed shortly before her death.

Mrs. Wall was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Lowry and was born January 19, 1853 in Appanoose county. She had lived in Tama county about 50 years. She and Mr. Wall were parents of nine children, two of whom died in infancy. They were a son, Everett, and daughter, Louise. Mr. Wall died in 1915. She is survived by one son, Will, at home; six daughters, Mrs. Will Ingram and Mrs. Harry Smith of Montour, Mrs. Herb Phenis, of Gladbrook, Mrs. Chris Anderson, of Marshalltown, Mrs. Truman Dobson, of Garwin, and Mrs. Walter Bowen, of State Center; and two brothers, John and Jim Lowry of Garwin. Mrs. Wall had been a member of the Carlton Brethren church for many years and was an earnest, faithful Christian.

Mrs. Wall is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Carlton Brethren church in charge, Rev. William Gray. Burial was in the Carlton Brethren cemetery beside her husband.

Large Number of Friends and Relatives at Services

Funeral services for Mrs. Letta Wall who died at her home in Carlton April 27, were held at the Carlton church last Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. William Gray. Mrs. Edna Bean and Pauline Welton furnished the music with Mrs. Glen Lowry at the Piano. Pallbearers were Dan Dobson, Lawrence Bowen, William Turner, Garth Anderson, and Carl and Wayne Dobson, all grandsons. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Charles Dobson, Mrs. James Cooper, and Mrs. John Peek and Mary Ferguson.

Those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lowry of Moulton, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Lowry, of Boxholm, and a large number of relatives and friends from State Center, Marshalltown, Green Mountain, LeGrand, Garwin and Montour.

Interment was in Carlton cemetery.
