Jerimiah Smith

Jerimiah Smith was born in Franklin county, Ohio, August 7th, 1824, and died in Richland township, Tama county, Iowa, January 1st, 1902. He was twice married, his first wife living but a short time. Her name was Sarah Howard, whom he married on January 17, 1850. She died on September 5th of the same year.

In 1855 he married Amelia Bobo and the next day after marriage they migrated to Iowa, settling in Salt Creek township, Tama county. The next spring they moved to Richland township. His second wife died on November 22d, 1881 and since then he has lived most of the time with his children, dying at the home of his daughter, Mrs. David Clem. He had no children by his first wife but had eight by his second. There were five boys and three girls: the boys all survive him and one girl, Mrs. David Clem, the other two girls died some years ago.

He has one brother and one sister living. The brother, Seeley Smith, whose home is Marshalltown, was at the funeral. The sister, Emma Goodrich, lives in Galena, Deleware county, Ohio. The funeral services were held at the home of David Clem, and at the Union church in Haven, on January 2nd, the sermon being preached by M. W. S. Perry, pastor of the Chelsea M. E. church. A large number of relatives and friends attended the services. The deceased was a member of the United Brethren church.
