Mrs. Albert Mathern Dies of Heart Attack

Believed Induced by Shock Suffered in Auto Accident

Mrs. Albert Mathern 69, lifelong resident of Tama county, who with her husband lived on a farm in north Geneseo township many years, died of a heart attack in Allen Memorial hospital, Waterloo, at 11:45 last Friday morning.

Mrs. Mathern has been in impaired health several years. She was in an automobile accident five days before her death and although she apparently escaped serious injury the heart attack is thought to have resulted from shock from that experience. She had been in the hospital since the accident.

Mrs. Mathern, who was Frances L. West, a daughter of A. W. West and Mary West, was born in the Toledo community Dec. 15, 1875. She married Albert Mathern Jan. 19, 1904, at Tama. The couple lived in Traer a few years after their marriage while Mr. Mathern and a partner operated the Traer brick and tile factory. Later they engaged in farming. Until recent months they lived and farmed with their son, Paul, in Geneseo, many years. Paul, who married several months ago is now living in Waterloo.

Surviving with the husband and Paul are a daughter, Mrs. William J Steimel of Eagle township, Black Hawk county; two brothers, Alex West of Buckingham and Amos of Toledo; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Mulligan of Bancroft, Ia. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 at St. Mary's at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at Eagle Center, and burial was in the church cemetery.
