Peter Moran came to Plymouth County in 1877. He bought 80 acres of land in Plymouth County and also in Section 7. At the time of his death, he owned 200 acres south of Struble and 200 acres north of Struble. His farm was well stocked with cattle and horses. In addition to farming, Peter Moran taught country school and was paid $45 a month. They liked having him teach because the female teachers were not able to handle the big boys who got pretty rowdy, at times. Peter rode horseback nine miles each way to teach at Mammen. He did the chores before and after teaching school each day. His wife put newspapers under his jacket to act as insulation for warmth. Peter was described as being very religious, uprighteous, and honest. He served on the school board and was constable of the township (something like Justice of the Peace).
