Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sage announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jackqueline Jo to Scott Kampen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kampen of Ottosen. An August wedding is planned.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Frieden (Esther Wirtz) are the parents of a 7 1/2 lb son, who has been named Vincent Thomas and was born Monday, February 16th. Vincent has one sister, Angela.

Charles Bjustrom, a 40 year old Whittemore, Iowa farmer, was named Iowa's 1976 Pork All American last week in Waterloo. He will receive national recognition at the National Pork Congress in Indianapolis, Ind. in March.

Funeral services were held for Mary Katherine (Mersch) Leitl, February 13th at the First Presbyterian Church in Ottosen, with Pastor Keith Strayer officiating. She married Joseph Leitl Sr. at West Bend on January 7, 1903, he passed away in 1964. Survivors are children, Albert Leitl, Mrs. Gordon Larson, Mrs. Bernt Berge and Joseph Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Wichendahl wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lisa Lorraine to Greg Blair, son of Mrs. Glenn (Kay) Blair.

Former West Bend residents and now of Mallard, Thorsten and Vivian Satern, were honored at a potluck by their neighbors for their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married February 16, 1926 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. An open house is planned at a later date.

Many relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Will Lauck visited them in the Good Samaritan Care Center in Algona last week to help them celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary.

A 22 year old West Bend man, Dale Wilcoxon, entered into the U.S. Army in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota ceremony Feb. 20. He is the son of George and Mildred Krug of here. Dale had previously been in the U.S. Marines for four years. His brother Walter is now serving in the U.S. Marines now and brother Kenneth Krug is in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Josephine Wasko, 87, died Saturday at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Services were Tuesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Manson. Josephine Zych, born in Chicago, married Frank Wasko in 1908 in Duncan, Nebraska. Survivors are: children: Gertrude Wasko, Mrs. Susie Fouts, Andrew, Frank Jr., Joe, Charles, Dennis, Chester, Mathew, Bernard and Bobbie.

Sister Marlene Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Weber of West Bend, has been promoted to associate professor at Viterbo College in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She is also chairwoman of the sociology department and president of the Faculty Senate at Viterbo.

Fifty-four years ago, February 22nd, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hofius' were married at the home of her parents, eight miles north of Algona. The couple farmed until their retirement, twenty years ago, when they moved into the lovely one story home built by Eugene and his two son-in-laws, in the town of Ottosen.

Mr. and Mrs. Ron Metzger (Liss St. John) wish to announce the arrival of their new son, March Richard, on March 6th, weighing 7 lbs. 7 1/2 oz. He will be welcomed home by two brothers, Scott Michael, 3, and Kevin Patrick, 2.

Mr. and Mrs. James Fehr are the proud parents of a son, Karl Dean, born March 8th, weighing 9 lbs 4 oz. He has two brothers and two sisters to welcome him home.

Mrs. Violet (Dilly) Ehrhardt, 62, died Saturday at Mesa, Arizona, where she and her husband Herbert, had been spending the winter. Services will be held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday.

Kay Faber of Algona and Robert Sewell of West Bend were united in marriage at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Algona. They will be at home here in West Bend where they are both employed at the West Bend Elevator.

Scott Kampen returned home Saturday from a two week duty with the National Guard at Camp Ripley, Minnesota. He was honored at the Fred Kampen home with a surprise party.

Luan Bargman, daughter of Mr .and Mrs. James Bargman has been accepted at Nettleton Business College, Omaha, Nebraska. She will begin her Medical Assistant program in September.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Patty Berninghaus) Schany, Jr., of Ayrshire are the parents of a baby boy, Jeffrey John, born March 11th. He weighed 9 lbs. 5 oz. and has a sister, Tina 5 and William 1, to welcome him home.

A lovely 17-year-old Colleen Schany, is Miss Shamrock 1976. Her court includes Kathy Davis of Emmetsburg as first runner-up, Janet Laabs of Sentral Fenton, second runner-up and Annette Perry of Mallard was Miss Congeniality. Colleen's sister, Ann Marie Schany Nelson was Miss Shamrock six years ago.

Former neighbors and friends of Mr .and Mrs. Lawrence Dorweiler gathered at their home March 23rd for a farewell party. They will be moving to a farm northeast of Algona and will be employed by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Loss.

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Barber are the parents of a baby boy born March 19th and has been named Brett Jay. He has a three year old sister, Michelle Rae.

Funeral services for Emaline (Walsh) Jergens, 70, were held Tuesday, March 30 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was married to Howard Jergens on October 6, 1925. She is survived by her husband and ten children, 36 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and five sisters.

Kay Barnard of New Virginia and Gerald Marso of West Bend were united in marriage March 13th in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset. They will be living in Winterset where the bride teaches school and the groom is with the Union State Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Metzger of Rock Rapids are the parents of a 7lb. 11 oz. baby boy born March 15th and has been named Reed Marvin. Mr. and Mrs. Verner Wirtz are the maternal grandparents.

Forrest Hill Methodist Church was the setting for the ceremony which united Miss Marilyn Miller of Chillicothe to Arlo Grimm of West Bend, on Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Grimm will reside near Algona, Iowa.

Mary Habeger about 80 years passed away Monday at the State Hospital at Cherokee. Miss Habeger was a sister to the late Ben Habeger. She willed her body to the University of Iowa for use in study and experimentation. Miss Habeger was a registered nurse and worked in this capacity at the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Edgington are the proud parents of a daughter born at the Emmetsburg Hospital on Monday. The little girl weighed seven and one fourth pounds and has been named Jan Eileen.

Gus and Mary Kiehl observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 8th with an open house at the United Methodist Church. They have two children, Art Kiehl, a baker at Fairmont and Mrs. Al Weigert of Creighton, Nebraska. Gus has been a baker at Leah's Bakery for many years.

Kathryn May Layton, 29, the daughter of Mary and Leo Ludwig, passed away April 1st at St. Louis, Missouri. She is survived by her husband, Clyde Layton and four children, Lonnie 12, Shirley 9, Sylvia 7 and Linda 6; her parents, 3 sisters and 8 brothers. One brother preceded her in death in infancy.
