Sanborn Co-operative Grain Company

The Sanborn Cooperative Grain Company is probably Sanborn’s oldest cooperative business. A farmer co-op, it was organized in 1906. Craig Jackson was their first manager. He was followed a few years later by C.A. Hakeman, who retired June 1, 1949 after 40 years as manager. Chas. Getting was one of the first directors.

The company has prospered through the years and now has an extensive establishment which includes a grain elevator of 18,000 bushel capacity, a large concrete grain elevator, 120 feet high of 100,000 bushel capacity, which was erected in 1949. Also lumber sheds. At the present time they are replacing the old coal bins across the road west of the elevator with a 40 by 100 foot warehouse in which they will keep merchandise: feed, seed, fertilizer and building materials. They operate a corn dryer when needed as part of their business.

Bert Struyk is now manager and directors are: Ed Huibregtse, president, Will Postma, vice-pres., Abe Vanden Burgh, sec.-treas., Merton Raymond, Clarence Getting, Clarence Schemper, O.B. Snyder, George Wachtel and Claus Schlicht.
