August J. Schmoll (1892-1946)

Services were held Sunday at the Hartley Methodist church for August J. Schmoll, only son of the late Henry Schmoll and his wife, Elizabeth Schmoll. He was born May 7, 1892, in Harrison Twp., Osceola County, Iowa. He was baptized in infancy and later together with an adult class was confirmed in the Trinity Evangelical church at Hartley.

On December [8?], 1925, he was united in marriage to Miss Eloth A. Lewis of Stella, Mo. Two daughters were born to this union. He loved his home and always thought of his family first. He served for more than a year in World War 1. He passed away March 7, 1946 at the age of 52 years and ten months. He was taken ill Wednesday night, having attended to usual duties about the farm that day. About two o'clock he suffered a stroke and at five another. The Dr. was called and he died enroute to the Sibley hospital.

He leaves to mourn his passing besides his widow Eloth, two daughters, Ruth and Mildred, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Schmoll, three sisters, Mrs. Alvena Gieser, Miss Anna Schmoll and Mrs. Bertha Anderson, all of Hartley, Iowa. One Uncle, Conrad Arend of Louisville, Ky., his father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis of Stella, Mo., four brothers-in-law, Adolph Gieser, Gustave Anderson of Hartley, Samuel Lewis of Stella, Mo., and Rev. W. P. Richardson of Wheaton, Mo. Three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ressie Spiva, Mrs. W. P. Richardson, and Mrs. Samuel Lewis. Six nephews, Ralph Gieser, Carl and Gordon Lewis, Norman, Thurman and Edwin Spiva. Seven nieces, Mrs. Ardyce Klarstrom, Mrs. Maxine Steele, Miss Maryan Anderson, Miss Betty Lou Lewis, Mrs. Cleo Cook, Mrs. Wilma Lambert and [son?] and Mrs. Maxine Hill as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

Rev. G. E. Schnider officiated at the services. Music was furnished by a male quartette consisting of R. W. and A. C. Hoper, Clarence Olhausen and W. R. Wagner, accompanied by Mrs. Harrison Pike at the organ. Pallbearers were Earl Joines, Kendel Joines, Robert [Pruens?], Chris Kruckenberg and Herman Speck. Interment was made in Harrison Twp. cemetery.
