1857 Naturalizations
According to the records in Clerk Smith's office at the court house, or at least the oldest that he could dig up for us, Peter Gunderson, Gulbrand Olsen, Andrew Erickson, Erick Wilson and John Beecher were the first persons to be naturalized in this county. All became American citizens the same day - June 2, 1857. The judge presiding at that term of the district court was John S. Murdock. L.S. Hart was sheriff of the county and H.P. Paxon clerk of the district court. The first four mentioned were natives of Norway and the fifth came from 'Great Britain and Ireland'. - News ~St. Ansgar Enterprise,
