local church
Livermore —William Devine, 84, of Livermore, died at the Lutheran hospital, Fort Dodge on
Tuesday Jan. 24. Mr. Devine suffered a stroke Saturday evening and was rushed to the hospital.
He had been in failing health over a year.
William Devine was born Dec. 20, 1876 in Riverdale township in Kossuth County. His parents
were Barnett and Abigail Batterson Devine.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Nellie Goetzman of Pomona, Calif., and several nieces and
nephews. His parents, three brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday in the Methodist church here, Rev. Usher officiating.
Pall bearers were John Segar, William Claus, Ray Falb, Edwin Blazen, Alvin Lcnertz and
Lawrence Miller. Burial was in the Irvington cemetery.
Blake's Funeral home of LuVerne was in charge of arrangements.

James Devine
Rites Monday at Algona
ALGONA—Funeral services for James F. Devine, 77, Algona retired farmer, were held Monday
morning in St. Cecelia's Catholic Church here. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. P. Gearen officiated and burial was in
Calvary cemetery. Hamilton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Devine died Thursday
evening at Good Samaritan Nursing Home here after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 17, 1884, at Livermore, to James. N. and Mary Dunn Devine. He was married to Reba
Holdren, Feb. 14, 1912, in St. Cecelia's Church, Algona. The couple farmed near here until 1955 when they
retired and moved to town.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Frances (Maxine) McNalley, Emmetsburg; Mrs. Marshall
(Bernice) Bainter, Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. Wayne (Jean) Elder, Hawthorne, Nev.; and Mrs. Wilbert
(Betty) Dailey, Corwith; two sons, Charles B. Devine, Algona, and Robert R. (Ray) Devine, Corwith; three
sisters Mrs. Sadie Skilling, Algona; Mrs. Nellie Fresser, Humboldt; Mrs. Gene Ennis, Clarion; three
brothers, Steve Devine, Corwith; William Devine, St. Joe and Lewis Devine, Humboldt; 27 grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.

Geo. J. Lenertz
Rites Monday
At Livermore
Services for George J. Lenertz, 85, a longtime Livermore resident, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (April
28) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Lenertz died at the Sisson Nursing Home in Humboldt Friday noon.
Surviving are the widow, Clara; a son, Alvin, Livermore; two daughters, Mrs. Gus Boosalis and Mrs. Ted
Wagner, both of Livermore; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Born in Winfield, Ill., Mr. Lenertz came to the Livermore area at the age of 12. In 1907 he married Clara
Wernert there. He engaged in farming in the area and later worked as a carpenter.
