Married December 9, 1877, at the residence of the bride’s parents, by Rev. Edwin Hobbs, Mr. Milton Anspach and Miss Ella Dickson, both of Silver Creek twp. Once more we take pleasure in recording an event which has made another worthy couple happy. This is a well mated pair. Both are steady and industrious. Their lives have been such while residents in this county ass to win and retain the esteem of all whom became acquainted with them. Mr. and Mrs. Anspach start next Monday for New Liberty, Scott County, where they will spend the winder with the grooms parents. Married at the M.E. parsonage in Ida Grove on Wednesday July 14, 1880, Mr. Enos F. Babcock and Miss Eliza M. Webster, both of Ida County, Rev. C.B. Winter officiating. The groom is one of Ida County’s most prosperous farmers. We have not a personal acquaintance with the bride, but she must needs possessed of many amiable and womanly qualities to have been selected by E.F. Babcock as a life companion. Albert T. Baker & Miss Mina R. Brant
Dr. Albert T. Baker of this city, was married on Wednesday the 8th, by Rev. Dr. Miller of the M.E. Church in Iowa City to Miss Mina R. Brant of that place. The doctor is widely known throughout this county as one of our leading physicians, enjoying a splendid practice and being held in high esteem by all who know him. The bride was a schoolmate of the doctor’s in the Iowa University at Iowa City, and since than she graduated at that institution and been teaching in the schools of Iowa City. We had the pleasure of partaking of the luxuries of their wedding supper and can testify to its palatableness. Mr. Bender will bring his life partner to Ida in a couple of months, where they will commence housekeeping. May joy, peace, and prosperity ever be their companion. Married at Ida, by A.O. West, esq. on January 6, 1873, Mr. E.Benedict and Miss Rose Everett. This wedding took place according to the Quaker Faith, the Spirit moving the parties at a late hour at night. About 11 o’clock p.m. the bridegroom appeared at the residence of the Clerk of the Courts, procured the license from that official and were married by Justice West, about 2 o’clock the next morning. Married at Ida Grove at the residence of A.W. Lynn on Wednesday evening October 20, 1880, Mr. John T. Hallam and Misses Lizzie Fuller, Rev. A.E. Smith officiating. This marriage was one of the social events of the season. Both parties are well known and universally esteemed for their intrinsic worth, in this community. The groom is the senior member of the firm of Hallam and Reed, lumber and Grain dealer at this place and at Westside he is in charge of the business at the latter place. His is recognized as one of our best and most reliable young business men, and to be acquainted with Mr. Hallam is to become his friend. The bride, it is enough to say that she is entirely worthy of so manly a man. The happy couple took the train yesterday for Westside where for the present they will make their home. A large number of friends of the bride and groom gathered to witness the interesting ceremony, notwithstanding the weather, which was intensely cold an blustering. The groom is known to almost every man in the community, his extensive practice as a doctor having taken him to nearly every neighborhood in the county. He has been here less than three years and though a young man he has succeed in this short time in building up a reputation, both as a man and as a doctor. The bride is the daughter of Hon. A.M. Jacob and has won golden opinions from all whom she has become acquainted with. She has all the essential qualities that will make her a good wife. After the ceremony at the church, a number of friends of the family gathered at the residence of the bride’s parents and partook of a bountiful dinner. Married February 14, 1878, at the residence of the bride’s parents at Battle Creek, by Rev. Edwin Hobbs, Mr. James H. Taylor and Miss Belle Stiles. The above transaction occurred at the residence of Mr. Samuel Stiles last Thursday evening at eight o’clock and was one of the most pleasant weddings we ever had the pleasure of attending, greatly owing to the fact, perhaps, that the young couple in question were so familiarly and favorable known in society. All passed off of course, like a “marriage Belle” and everything intended for the harmony or dress upon the affair, fit as appropriately and snugly as though it had been prepared by a most skillful Taylor. Married on the 19th at Council Bluffs, Mr. O.C. Thompson, of this place, and Miss Mary A. Gard, of Wichita, KS. Yesterday morning’s train arrived with the happy pair, where they will commence housekeeping I a few days in a neat little cottage which the groom had prepared for the occasion. Mr. Thompson came to Ida County in 1875, and in the fall of the same year was elected to the office of County surveyor and in the fall of 1877 was elected to the second term. He has won the utmost respect and esteem from all and today ranks among the highest type of model young men, and we sincerely hope he has taken for life a companion a loving and confiding wife as a reward for his deserts.
