The Physicians of Alden (Iowa)

Up to the early eighties Alden had been represented in the medical fraternity by the following doctors: Drs. Crawford, J.F. George, B.E. Dodson, Benjamin F. Stricler, F.P. Frisbie and probably a few others. Dr. J.A. Ladd came from Clinton county, Iowa, in 164, remained about one year and removed to Iowa Falls.

Dr. J.U. David came to Alden in 1884. Enlisted in the Union army in 1862, serving until 1865, when, he was in the hospital service. He graduated at Rush Medical College, Chicago, in 1869 and is now the second oldest practicing physician in Hardin county.

Dr. Jonathan Johnson came to Alden in 1905 and is still practicing successfully.

Dr. F.P. Frisbee came to Alden in 1880 and died there in 1905. He had a large practice and was very well known and liked for his superiority in medicine in northwest Hardin county, as well as the adjoining section of country in Hamilton and Wright and Franklin.

Among the pioneer doctors was Dr. John Crawford, who came in 1851, and was the fist physican to practice medicine there. This was an even half century ago, when all was new and wild and when there were but few settlers in Hardin County.

Dr. Ladd came in 1864; Dr. George located there in 1860; Dr. Strickler in 1877; Dr. Dodson in 1865; Dr. Wallbridge came in 1894; Mr. W.H. Lewis came in 1895, and was coroner of Hardin county; he now resides, if living, in Colorado; Dr. W.H. Davis came in 1895. Others are Drs. W.B. Carpenter, Silas Card and J.A. Munix.

The present physicians at Alden are Drs. Frank Siedenburg, J.U. David and Jonathan Johnson.
