The war every few days gets nearer home. Wednesday information came that Lloyd W. Gettys of Stuart had been killed in action on the western front in France. Lloyd Gettys will be remembered by many Adair people, as he was a member of the Stuart track team that competed in Adair several times. He was their best mile-run man and won his event each time.

Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Schwenneker, Mrs. W. H. Sparling, W. J. Fulton and S. W. Carney of Adair and C. H. and Edward V. Sparling of Casey went to Des Moines Sunday and spent the day at Camp Dodge with their relatives, Lewis Carney and Leon O. Sparling. They also saw Geo. Hickey, Joe Grant, Wm. McCarthy, Matt McDonnell, John Hollinrake and LeRoy Overmire.

John "Rusty" Hogan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe. S. Hogan, was in Des Moines this week and enlisted in the Army and will go to Fort Logan, Colo., next Monday.

Lyman Burr has arrived home from his studies in a military school in West Virginia.

At the Palace Theatre Monday, June 10, "Red, White and Blue Blood," 15 and 22 cents including war tax.

From the time of organization which was about the middle of October, up to June 1, the Red Cross branch has made 144 sweaters, 20 scarves, 220 pairs of socks, 114 wristlets, 19 helmets, 72 bath robes, 186 bed shirts, 195 pajama suits, 1,800 2x2 gauze sponges, 1,475 4x8 gauze compresses, 600 8x12 absorbent pads, 25 split irrigation pads, 10 dozen handkerchiefs, 10 bunches of gun wipes, 6 pairs of bandaged foot socks and 20 wash clothes. The children from some of the country schools throughout the Big-4 section made the gun wipes.
